• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSDS 3.5.1 XtoMdl problem

After compiling a static scenery ship model that is suppose to have a rotating radar on the mast, using XtoMdl, and then "Instant Scenery" to place it in FSXA, I find that the radar dish is not up on the ships mast. But rather inside the ships hull on the ocean surface, and centered amid ships. Not rotating either.

Works fine when compiling with makemdl for both FSXA and FS9.

If I compile through FSDSXtweak, the radar dish is where it is suppose to be, up on the mast. But still not rotating.

I read something about animating an object with FSDSXtweak. But not sure I fully understand how to do that.

Thanks for any help.

This is a "quicky off the cuff suggestion" but it happened to me a long time ago. If you originally designed for FS9 you would have used tick18 as the name for your rotating part. That name doesn't work in FSX (and XtoMdl) so the animated part winds up at the origin of the project. All is not lost if this is the problem; just change the name of the animated part to Ambient.

Hope this helps, Paul

Hi Paul, I tried that. Still have the same results. I had previously used this same radar dish on a ship model that I had constructed several years ago for FS9. So I imported it into the present ship model. And I'm beginning to wonder if maybe that part still contains some internal coding from back then, that may be screwing things up.

Have been pulling my hair out for several days, haha. Even tried re-animating the part. Dumb me... Maybe I should try making a simple cube for this model, put it up on the mast, animate it and see what happens. I'll have a go at that this evening. I drive a school bus, and have to go back to work this afternoon.

Hi,
Remember that moving the object after putting the animation on it will cause this kind of problem.
