• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSDS3 Hard Surface for Helo. landings ?

I am building some custom hospitals in FSDS3 and all in real life have Helo. pads on the roof....is there a way to make the roof hard,so the helo's can land on it?
Thanks for any help..

MakeMDL does support this option, but I am not sure if FSDS3 can create the correct X file to get this effect. In GMax it can be done by running a special script. Maybe some of the people more into FSDS3 can tell you if this option is there.

Thanks Arno,
It would be nice to be able to land the helo's on the Hospital rooftops....If this cant be achieved then i'll put some land based pads by the hospitals instead...
Hopefully someone, as you said, with better knowledge of FSDS than myself can provide an answer.

Joe,

FSDS3 does not support the platform function, but there is a relatively easy work around in GMAX. I can't take credit for this, it was posted in this forum a while ago by Paul:

It requires the CVA convertors, and you have to use GMAX to actually make the platform It also requires the FS2004 Gmax SDK to be installed.

1. Select or create the surface to make a hard deck from. I generally scale the surface down slightly or lower it slightly below what will be the visible surface to make sure I don't get the "Flashing texture" problem.
2. Name the part in "Current Item Properties"
3. Save the part and the project.
4. Open a new project and import the part into the project.
5. Name and save the project.
6. Convert the project file into a .dfx file with the CVA converters.
7. Import the file to GMAX.
8. Select the part in gmax and run the attachtool script on it for a concrete deck.
9. clone the part, then run the attachtool on the cloned part to remove the crash boxes.
10. Export your new hard deck as a .mdl file and place it with the placement tool of choice at the exact same location as your scenery object.

Thanks Jim,
I can use that work around since I use EZ Scenery to place my objects..
Much Appreciated.
