• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX AI Aircraft Control

I would like to take over an ATC controlled AI aircraft, fly it around for a bit, then return it to its flight plan so it can land , taxi to gate etc.

So far I have tried:
1)Setting waypoints. This part fine, the AI aircraft does exactly what it is told. However it is no longer ATC controlled as can be seen from the state variable of "unknown".
2) Loading a flight plan with AISetAircraftFlightPlan. Works well for sleeping aircraft on the ground, however I have not made it work with aircraft "enroute". When I do the plane just makes random turns or crashes into the ground.

A couple of questions:
a) Can a flight plan be created such that it starts "in the air" for given coordinates? Or, can it say "start from where ever you are in the world now and fly to the given destination"?
b) Is there a user guide to the flight plan XML?
c) Any other successful techniques for getting an AI aircraft back under ATC control after manual waypoints?

Thanks,
Simon

I have not tried this but what about using SimConnect_AICreateEnrouteATCAircraft. It allows you to start an AI somewhere in the mddle of the flightplan. You just have to figureout where you are in the flightplan route the time you take over.

see

dFlightPlanPosition
[in] Double floating point number containing the flight plan position.

Thanks, indeed that may well work but I'm also looking for a method of control over AI aircraft implemented using the standard schedule BGL.

You must be able to retrieve the waypoints of any AI aircraft. You can see them in the traffic toolbox programs. Now you would need to get ALL the waypoints. I was told that traffic toolbox was not really a simconnect program in that it had "extra" undocumented code in it to do what it does (I was very disappointed to hear that:()

I might play around with this idea.

Yes there it is AI WAYPOINT LIST and AI CURRENT WAYPOINT etc. under new FSX Variables. Now how can you force AI to take it back with the same waypoints? Traffic Explorer seems to show it can be done.

I share the disappointment concerning the way toolbox is implemented. One private interface for Microsoft, and something else for the rest of us. Well not to be too unfair, I think I saw both Hornet and the EH-101 start SimConnect sessions.

I moved onto other projects now, but I may come back to this later in the year. Thanks for the ideas.

Regards
Simon
