• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX autogen display issue

I have an issue with my vector autogen that has me baffled. It seems that a section of my autogen pipeline does not display when flying the route in south to north direction but displays fine if I fly the route north to south.

Anyone have an idea why this would occur?

Hi Mike,

could be spatially overlapping land class files that get loaded at different times. I know of similar issues with mesh files that may or may not get loaded depending on the approach path.

As you know if FS loads a land class tile without autogen your vector autogen pipeline won't show. I'm not positive but I believe the determination happens for the entire length of the vector at the vectors first point. Vectors get clipped at QMID11 boundaries in addition to your own start and end points so you may want to concentrate your search at QMID11 boundaries.

Alternatively, you could experiment with splitting your vector in or near the areas that lack pipeline sections.

Cheers, Holger

Holger,

I think I have all the vectors split at the QMID11 but I'll double check them all. As far as "spatially overlapping" land class I'm not sure exactly what that means - could you elaborate?

Hi Mike,

sorry, I wasn't very clear. What I meant by "concentrate your search at QMID11 boundaries" was in regards to the land class file(s) not the vectors. All vectors will be clipped by Shp2vec at QMID11 boundaries (traffic vectors at QMID15) so there's no need to do that yourself.

I have to say though that I'm not 100% certain that's the issue; it's just that the directionality of the effect sounds like the same issues I've encountered with land class and mesh files. However, vector autogen does have some oddities other than the requirement for land class with autogen and it does look as if all land class tiles in your screenshot have active autogen.

I assume you've only made one land class file that follows your vector line. However, there may be others installed on your system that cover the same area or parts thereof. If you fly in an area the sim will constantly check for new landscape files it should load. Now, if there are "competing" files for the same area it can happen that the sim loads the one it encounters first and then doesn't load the other unless you do a manual scenery library refresh. The coverage area of these files usually aren't identical, which is why the situation can be reversed depending on the direction one flies.

Like I said though, it looks as if the area in the screenshot has full autogen coverage. Still, might be worth temporarily deactivating other Alaska land class add-ons you might have, or experiment with different classes for your own land class file.

Cheers, Holger

Holger,

Thanks, that clears it up for me. I'll re-check for the landclass issue.

Regards, Mike
