• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Crash to desktop

If I understand the test correctly and you get a CTD when Addon Scenery is enabled but not when it is disabled then your CTD may be coming from some file other than your KMKE file but I will leave it to Ray to confirm since it is his test.

FSX recurses on scenery folders, if Addon Scenery is enabled and contains other scenery folders in the tree, they will be loaded.

Kevin,

the strong suggestion is that there must be something in the \Addon Scenery folder, or sub-folders, that is causing problems. Is it possible to show us -

a - what is in the \Addon Scenery folder?
b - what is in the \Addon Scenery\scenery folder?
c - what is in the \Addon scenery\texture folder?

It is a long time since I did an FSX install but I suspect that, after this initial install, there should be nothing in \Addon Scenery other than \scenery and \texture folders and these should be empty. I am wondering if, during your early attempts at compiling direct to these folders from ADE, some file(s) has got stuck in here somewhere.

Personally, when I compile from ADE, I allow all compile BGL's to go into \FSX\Bgl folder in the ADE installed folders. I then copy the files into appropriate positions within my \Addon Scenery in FSX. You should do whatever is most comfortable and convenient for you.

George,
in my \Addon Scenery I have, as well as the \scenery and \texture folders, I have loads of other folders for individual airfields, each of which contain \scenery and \texture folders of course.

If I read your statement correctly, are you saying that if I disable any of these airfield folders, because I am leaving Addon Scenery enabled, then the disabled folder scenery will be loaded?

Hi Raymk,
Attached are screenshots of the contents of the folders you requested

Kevin,
not sure what \Addon Scenery\Intersections folder contains but if you don't need it - delete (or move it elsewhere for now).

The file \addon Scenery\scenery\KMKE_ADEX_KD.bgl should be deleted as the file you want is in the \KMKE folder.

The file in \texture comes from a compile done on an ADE file containing a GP so we do not need to bother with that.

Do these deletions make any difference?

Have done a test using one of my airfields.

I have a folder \Addon Scenery\KMOB containing scenery and texture folders and this airfield differs significantly from the default FSX version. All of my similar folders are higher up the priority compared to Addon Scenery, in the way that I have long understood is the best way to arrange these folders.

In FSX, with KMOB enabled, I see my version of this airfield with all of my peculiar modifications.
If I disable KMOB, the airfield in FSX has reverted to the default FSX version - so I must not be understanding what you mean by your earlier statement

Hi raymk
I deleted those files. This is what is in the Intersections folder. I looked at the CFG file in SDE, and it said "False" by the active field for KMKE. What was strange was that the CFG file is named NewScenery.cfg. Attached is the Intersections and Scenery Folders.

Kevin Davis

What is in ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX-SE? Is the date on the scenery.cfg file more recent, the same or older than the one in ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX?

Hi raymk,
CTD still occurred when I did those steps. I have addon scenery unchecked in the library. KMKE is at priority 1. Do I need to enable the addon scenery in order for the changes to take effect?

Hi Jon,
NewScenery.cfg is the most recent (9:31 AM)
OldScenery.cfg and scenery.cfg were updated at 9:29 AM.

If Addon Scenery\scenery no longer contains any files relating to KMKE, then you can re-enable Addon Scenery and see what happens.

If it still suffers CTD then I cannot think of any other ideas for you to try. I do not have FSX:SE so cannot join in discussions that are particular to it.

That's not actually what I asked. Do you have a folder called ..\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX-SE?

If you do not mind I would suggest that Kevin gets in touch with one of us through Skype or something else so that he can share screen!
If not this thread will be going on for a long, long time.
FSXSE is not so different from FSX that it should show all the things Kevin showed his scenery to be in.
It should not be anywhere but in the root FSX\addon scenery.

Hi Roby,
That's actually what I was thinking. Have you ever heard of Team Viewer? It's a remote desktop app that lets you share your screen with someone. I think the trial version only lets you do five minutes at a time. I've used it to troubleshoot other computer issues in the past. https://www.teamviewer.us/downloads/

Kevin,

can you attach a copy of your "Newscenery.cfg" for us to look at? From the folder "\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX".

I presume this is the file that gets updated whenever the Scenery Library is altered.

Hi Raymk,
Now the Newscenery.cfg is gone for some reason. When I just updated the scenery library in FSX, the files "OldScenery.cfg" and "Scenery.cfg" are displayed as the files that were updated most recently. I tried attaching those files, and I got an error message saying that the CFG file wasn't a valid file extension to upload.
Regards,
Kevin Davis

The only one that FSX will read is scenery.cfg. The others seem to be the same and may be backups produced by a scenery add on.
