• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA FSX just tanked!

So on my desktop that I design my scenery on, FS is suddenly experiencing a MASSIVE problem where as soon as I load a flight, everything goes blurry and the textures on my buildings screw up.

This occurs everywhere I load, and my FS visuals are already at a bare minimum because I use the computer solely for FS design. This has just started happening today, and I haven't made any changes to anything.

Defragging and virus scan hasn't helped at all.

maybe your fsx.cfg is messed up. Delete the file and start the fs again. The fsx.cfg will be generated again and filled with default settings, so you need to adjust your settings again.

Regards,
Vitus

well i thought maybe missing textures were the problem, so i tweaked the FSX.cfg, but this was after it started messing up. I'll give it a try and shout back at ya if it works.

Well, that actually didn't help. Here is a screenshot of what my visuals suddenly look like.

I've been using this computer for years and it has never done this.

that smells like trouble with the graphic cards memory. At least it looks familiar to what I experienced a couple of years ago with some other graphic-intense games. For me the only solution was to upgrade my system.
Sorry I can't help, but maybe someone else has a better idea.

Good luck!

update:

I uninstalled ALL add-on scenery, which fixed everything, and decided to start testing them one by one to find the culprit.

I started with Stanly County. It messed it up again.

I've tried two or three others with the same results.

it seems to be my add on-scenery in general that is doing it, but I can't figure out why!

It just started doing this today... any ideas?

Hi
You can try removing the
[BufferPools]
PoolSize=
section form the fsx.cfg
Ive seen the same on my poor old cluncker, all thats happened is you have reached a max on your system and the vid card is not keeping up.It gets worse as the fps gets low say under 15.Removing the bufferpool entry might not work it depends on the system...but it helped a fair bit for me on my cluncker

well... call me crazy, but my FSX.CFG doesn't have that in it. would ADDING it help?

And the answer is YES!

Adding bufferpools and setting the pool size to 4000000 fixed it.

I still wonder why it messed up in the first place? At any rate... this is what it SHOULD look like:

Hmmmm what ver of fsx you running?
Im not 100% sure but think it was only added in FSX acell and maybe sp2.
this is the info I have on it

[BufferPools]
PoolSize=5000000

According to Brian at Aces this may help if you are getting stutters/pops during turns or when you pan your view around. The default is 1000000. Increasing it to 5000000 or 10000000 trades off some of your video memory against having to re-allocate these things all the time.

Attention ! On some systems this tweak can cause FPS drops and disoriented graphics. If you get in trouble, disable this entry.

also Ive found if your still getting the spears of death :) dropping the resolution of the scenery textures that are rendered a lot like the trees
buildings(there are re-sized one's on most flightsim sites) help by giving the video card less to choke on ;)

I'm running FSX with SP1 and SP2 installed.

The fsx.cfg didn't have the bufferpools entry, but when I added it, all of my scenery woes went away. it was like i was getting those disoriented graphics WITHOUT it. Hmm... odd, but at least it's fixed!

Indeed, bufferpools is something you have to add to the cfg. Glad it worked for you. On my current system no cfg tweeks help at all. I do use the 3GB switch, though.

I am sure glad that it worked for ya Jon. I was beginning to think I we might not be ATC'ing for a while. (I am also patiently waiting for JQF and INT to be finished :D.)

Yeah... I was flipping out over it and you know it! I was about to start kicking small animals.

You REALLY want to host an ATC multiplayer session at JQF? It only has one runway and you HATE single runway airports! (although you could rename the runway 20C, and call the ramp runway 20R, and the interstate 20L if you'd like. They're long enough to land stuff on!)

moi... i've poured sweat and tears into that thing. I'm going to buy a nice couch and refrigerator and i'm moving into that tower and never coming out!
