• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

FSX Material Assignment Question

Hey guys,

I dont know if this is a Gmax Modelling question or a FSX graphics question. It seems to be something based on Gmax settings and not graphics.

I have my two pilots, mapped and all. However, they appear to have shine to them, making them appear to be like toy dolls instead of people.

I have all shine, reflections, etc, 'off' on their material controls settings.

Any idea's?

What's the specular colour of your material? By default it is a gray that gives some reflection. Try to make it black.

Hey Arno,

That didnt work. Originally I didnt have a Specular map, but I added one to see if that would do it, making it both black and white, and neither did a thing to it.

I also tried turning down the slider for Ambiant, and that made it look a bit odd.

Really a puzzle.. All settings for shine/reflection are at zero. This shouldnt be happening.

Arno! That was it!!

I had the specular map in the Specular Level slot, not in the Specular Color slot.

Worked brilliant. Black was the direction to take.

A thousand thanks Sir!
