• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi guys, i want to make a FSX airport with FSX planner but i cant figure out how to use it, i followed the link on the scenery help page that i have been asking questions on-http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?p=42170#post42170 and downloaded the FSX planner up on that page, i need help on how to use it for a complete newbie, the only thing i have done to do with design was play around with Gmax.

please help me if you can!

Thanks guys

sorry guys there is no link on that web page, anyway's i got up the airport i want to edit; can i add grass runways and how?
i would also like the help i asked for above plz.

Thanks

Chappy

Once you have compiled your airport XML into a BGL file you should move that BGL to your AddOn Scenery\scenery folder (not the texture folder) and restart FS so that it rebuilds its database.

If you choose some other subfolder within AddOn Scenery you will need to go tot the scenery configurator and add that folder in the list of sceneries and let it rebuild the database.

thanks for that, can i make grass runways with FSX planner?

also im having trouble with taxiways because i see in default airports it has yellow lines around the edge but wen i make mine it doesnt, how do i get to make good taxiways?

thanks

i tried to use the 'compile' ption in FSXplanner but it doesnt work, how else can i compile it to work with FSX, doing it normally it just doesnt make a BGL file.

What happens when you use the compile option? Do you get an error, if so what is it?

Parse complete!

Can't copy BGL file into the destination folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK\Wigram NZWG.BGL (The system cannot find the file specified)

so wat me do to make it work?

You can't copy it because it does not compile ;-)

You can select a grass runway in the runway properties dialog.

The error in your XML indicates that you did not specify the type of VASI lighting. Since you chose VASI when you add or select the scenery object (VASI tab in the runway data) you must make sure you specify all the values. Do not leave any empty. When you click on a runway you have several tabs in the dialog, one is runway data, the others for ILS if I remember correctly and then another 1/2 for the runway lighting type (can be any of several) and their respective properties.

When you add a taxiway look in the taxi properties on the left side of FSX Planner. Every time you select an object you will see the associated properties there, pay close attention to that. For taxiways you can specify if you want CENTER lines and EDGE lines. I think by default they are turned off.

thanks for that, i played around and got some other scenery to work.

is there a site that has airport pictures so that i can make the scenery like the real airport?

thanks for your help

You can get a google earth picture of your airport by going to Edit -> Manage Background Images and then clicking the Create Image button. This is a top down image that is useful for placing objects. If you want something that shows photographs of buildings, etc, then you'll either have to do a search for them, in which case depending on how big your airport is you may or may not find some; or you should actually go to the airport and take pictures yourself. The latter is the best way to get good detailed pictures.

i want to and i have made scenery for NZWG aiport but the autogen and stuff is in the way and the taxiway goes through houses and trees etc, how can i 'delete' or get ridd certain pieces of the original scenery?

thanks

Chappy

You can use exclusion rectangles in FSX Planner to remove things like scenery objects and buildings. To remove autogen objects like trees, you'll need to use a different program. I believe SBuilder does that pretty well?

okay i'll try that but wat about the ground its on beacause in FSX it's like a google earth image and at aiports it just green so how do i change the stuff on the ground?

I think you'd need to create a new ground texture. The SDK explains how to do this, and there is probably a program out there that helps you do this as well.

To mod the terrain you need SBuilderX 3.10. You can change the terrain textures, add lines for roads, etc, flatten the airport and remove autogen objects among other things.

thanks for that guys, where can i download SBuilder(the version scott said) from?

how do i get tech info like longitute and latitude for airports in the Canterbury(New Zealand) area aswell- like ashburton and west melton etc?

thanks

Chappy

SbuilderX is here:
http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=106143

If you need airport location, you can use FSX Planner and call up the airport and then use the airport reference point. If there is no existing FSX airport you can sometimes get the national AIP data, or in the worst case use Google Earth to find it visually. (GE has an airport layer which is pretty good, at least for larger airports. Private ones may require hunting down). In SBX, I like to get the iarport reference point and set that to the center of the design window, set the zoom to 12, and then enable Google Earth background. If GE is no good then try virtual Earth. Once you have it in zoom level 12, if the satellite picture is high res at all you can go down to about zoom 16, pan around as necessary to cover the whole airport in zoom level 16 tiles, and then create an image from that. I have then been using that image as my FSX Planner background, rather than acquiring the background directly in FSXP, but that's just my way of doing it. Note that if you add or adjust roads or streams etc in SBX, you should look at the compiled scenery files in the tmfviewer, along with the default data, because you might need to adjust your data at the edge of your project to merge with the default data outside of your project boundary

With FSXPlanner when i place the Hold-Short nodes i've got the 'type' set to 'Hold_Short' and the 'Orientation' set to 'Reverse', but i cant see the hold short lines on the taxiway. what can i do for the taxiway hold-short lines to appear?
