• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXPlanner public beta

I agree with Reggie - many of us have deliberately avoided using anything with CAD in it, both as a mark of respect to the work done by Lee and for the potential for confusion - the same argument as not using FSX Architect.

Also, please let me know of any bugs that are found, or any functionality that you think may be useful to add.

I've always missed the ability to add a background image in AFCAD.

By thw way, <Airport> doesn't like much having airportTestRadius as the first attribute. This caused me compilation problems.

I agree with Jon about not having anything similar to AFCAD.

I think it's going to stay FSX Planner for now. Although FLAP is very tempting!

Do you mean something similar to wallpaper?

Mm, just some functionality to place map as a background so I can use airport charts to create the taxiways etc.

What compilation problem were you having?

First, I was having this error:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showpost.php?p=31068&postcount=16

The file I saved the airport to was still open, so perhaps there's something wrong with closing the file after saving ("Save As...")? Unlocker showed me an open handle to the file. Exiting FSXPlanner helped.

Then again, I got various out-of-test-range warnings when airportTestRadius was the first attribute under <Airport>. Moving it to last position (just before ">") solved the problem. It's wierd that bglcomp sometimes prefers attributes and elements in a specific order. For example, if you construct <Windsock>, then subnode <PoleColor> must come before <SockColor> or the file will not compile at all. Took me many hours to figure out. : )

The warnings looked like this:

Code:
WARNING: #C1102 EEKA 547 TOWER 0 Airport (EEKA) has objec
t (TOWER) that is 547 meters from the ARP with a test threshold of 0 meters! XM
L line: 462.

This should have been fixed in the latest version. Just to make sure can you download it again (www.zbluesoftware.com/clients/FSXPlanner.zip), and test? Thanks!

That is very interesting that it actually wants the xml attributes in a specific order. Thanks for finding that out.

The warning C1102 doesn't seem to effect the compiling of the airport though. It's just annoying! There is an option in the latest version to not display that error.

You will recieve warnings of objects are outside the Airport Test Radius. Althougth they do not stop a successful compile they are useful in so far as an element might have been mistakenly placed wrongly. Less of a problem where the CAD interface is used to place elements but still potentially a problem for third party inbound XML.

That's true, but you also receive warnings for objects that are not outside the test radius because the compiler is thinking the test radius is zero. But apparently this is due to the order of the xml attributes within the xml tag. I'll have to test that. If that is the case, then it is wierd that the compiler needs the attributes within the tags in a specific order.

Just tryed to download that file.... it don't work.
I'm getting the same error with the 05\09\2007 10:09 pm file.
Joe W.

Can you send me, via PM, the xml file or the airport you are working off of? That way I can better find out what is causing the error and fix it.

Thanks!

I can extract any airport using Scruffy's Engine and then open it and compile it without any changes and get that error. I also get that error after I open it with planner save and then drag and drop it into BglComp.exe. I'll see if I can do that again. I'm doing a bunch of GA airports in central Florida. Almost all are private and very small. I'd just like to add parks to some.

Edit: Sometimes I can fix it by opening the xml wit XMLNotebook and save and it will compile. Just found this out. Might be a flaw in the way it compiles the xml.

I sent you a PM about the file you sent me. Hopefully that explains the error you were getting. The next release will contain the fix for it.

Hi,

I appreciate your work in FSX Planner (although I disagree with this name, because some tools have adopted similars names to flight planning).

Thanks for your attention.
Kind regards,

José

I fully agree with José's statement. I have seen FSX Planner mentioned for weeks now at this forum and just a hint from a friend showed me to this AFCADlike program.
I really thought it was a flightplanner or something like that.
But anyhow i looks good and i certainly will test/use it asap.
Thanks for your efforts to give us an other new designtool....

Regards
Bert

Howdee,

I've enclosed a screeny of the prefs page....the entire proggy looks like this..boxes instead of characters...Java 1.6 installed and working...any ideas??

That's very odd, especially as the dialog's title and tabs are displayed just fine. A couple of questions thens:
1) You do have the font Arial on your machine (I would be very surprised if you did not)
2) What OS are you using?
3) Have you tried setting to Look and Feel within FSX Planner to Metal instead of Windows? (This is under the Display tab of the Preferences dialog)
4) Are you using the US/English version of Java, or a different version, such as Chinese?
5) What do your menus look like in the application?

I'd suggest that you try completly uninstalling java on your system, then redownload the run time from sun and reinstall it. You might have some odd character assignments that are causing this, and it would be easiest to start with a clean slate.

You can download the JRE here: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

It's the 4th one down from the top.

When we get to the final release we'll provide the option of having a JRE installed specifically for the app. That'll be a bigger download, but will ensure a clean JVM.
