• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

And after the Error GMax closed.

Please say me that I mustn't do it again!!!

Thanks

Hi,

Do you have a backup? You can setup GMax to automatically save a backup every time you save your work.

Another option is to start with an empty scene and then merge the your file into it. Sometimes that works.

Thanks for the fast answer but to merge it doesn't go too. Is it posible that I can't apply the same material to two different objects? Because then may be possible that this is what causes the error. Per default, where does Gmax make these backups? If per default GMax make not any backups, how can I programm this? I have the model in an mdl file, because befor closing GMax I exported it for thesting it and I get some warnings, but can't remember what Warnings. Then I opened ModelConverterX and I imported the mdl to see if there is something wrong, but it was all like in GMax... So I closed GMax and saved my work, and when I wanted to open again... You already know what occured.

Thanks for your help, arno
Johannes

Have you the "Gmax User Reference" ? look at "Backing Up and Archiving Scenes"
the backups are in the... autoback folder

Sorry to hear that. I did get that too in the past.

I think the reasons for this failure are:
1. You attach some objects together and the program generate multimaterial to the new model of the result of attachment. I once get 4300 materials which I didn't know and, of course, the file crashed and unrecovered.
2. Sometime I put Degradation Overide to ON (a shadow box just below X,Y, Z coordinate) when I opened a complicated model. The model kept display Smooth and Highlight model while I turned around to look at. The program crashed and the file was recovered by opening X:\gmax\Autoback and look for autoback file. The file name will be Autobak1.gx not gmax. But you should not open any files after the crash, or else autobak will be the file that you just opened not the file you just crashed.

By this time, I think the only way to do is making that model again.
I fell your pain, I was there before.

If you have exported your model as a mdl file, you could try:

opening it in ModelconverterX
export as 3ds
import into gMax

The GUID can be recovered (from ModelconverterX) and pasted into gMax file properties

You may need to weld some of the geometry back together, and reapply te materials.

gMax quite frequently corrupts files.

I would suggest changing the Files setting to "Increment on Save" which saves each file with a number an n+1 number appended to its filename.
