• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX GMAX Aircraft Creating

Hello Andrew, you need a good tutorial series, not a single answer! Happily there is one, Milton Shupe's C162 tutorial series. Most excellent!

Yeah, that's a lot like asking "I've got a junk yard full of parts! How can I build a car with them?"

sorry I meant for FSX only on tutorials but they should work...
I'm trying to create a Embraer RJ 145 airliner for FSX and make the airline American Eagle, now Envoy

Milton's tutorial is targeted at FS9 modelling, but don't think FSX modelling is intrinsically different. There are differences in how animations (landing gear, control surfaces etc) and materials (textures for skinning) are handled but the SDK gives a lot of help with these. There's a lot more to learn about building a model before these steps!

You might also ask one question per post. It might get answers faster and more clearer.

I tried Milton Shupe's Tutorial... JUST GOT ME SO FRUSTRATED AND IT DIDNT WORK... Perhaps a picture of the ERJ 145 wings would help

In one day Rome built was not. Need of patience have you.

I went from FSDS to Gmax to 3DS Max and I still learn things every day. Learn to use one tool at a time, like a machinist in a machine shop learning to use a particular punch press, or mill, or lathe. One day at a time, one tool at a time. Become proficient with each tool. There are so many things to learn. You learn 'much' on your way, on your journey.

Its like an artist. You do not learn in one week how to paint a Mona Lisa. So many paints, types of brushes, cleaners, canvas', pencils, charcoals, papers, quaches, etc, etc, etc....

I know it is possible to bevel a line in 3DSmax, but in Gmax not? I am trying to create an aircraft wing for an Embraer 145... Any help???? Trying to take a cylinder and form it into a wingfoil shape did not work

I would always create a spline of the side profile of the wing, make that into a Polygon and extrude it out. This way you can do the flaps and things also, separately, attach them, then extrude as one part, then bend them with FFD's till they are correct and pointy, then detach flaps and ailerons.

Someone did a brilliant video of a tutorial on making an airliner on YouTube for FS. Do a search for Gmax, Max, FS, airliner, mesh, model, etc and see if you can find it. Brilliant tutorial, especially on the wing root where the wing meets the fuselage.

Ok I figured out the wings! Now my question is, how do I create the windows for the cockpit and the cabin on the fuesalage? What about the aircraft engines for an Embraer 145? Sorry to bother you... but you guys really help!

For windows, there are several ways. I create a spline 'template', place it in the location it needs to be, then use Cut to cut out the window. You can also use Shape Merge and also Boolean methods to create window cut lines.

When you have the cut lines done, select the inner Polygons, use 'Detach' to detach windows. Apply a transparent material to the windows. Done.

If you make half the fuselage, then cut the windows, you only need to clone the fuselage back over to the other side then and your work is 50% less.

Read in the help manual how to properly work Shape Merge and also Boolean. You can also find some very well done tutorials on Shape Merge and Boolean in YouTube. Do searches under both Gmax and Max Boolean and Shape Merge to get tutorials for both as Gmax is a form of Max. Almost the same.
