• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Gmax and FSX miss alignment?

Hi,
I don't know if this has been asked. But I did search without result.
Are there any tools or something to correlate the flight sim and Gmax?

The reason I ask this is: when I make models with a lot of buildings by using a plan and map satellite image to guide the position. The buildings far away from 0,0 are not in the right place in FSX world. Even they are in correct place in gmax. It is almost not possible to export each little building in separated mdl and place it separately.

If there is some tool that guide us in Gmax, the same way in S-builder, would be good.

I think that misalignment is due to the curved earth of FSX. Distance over a curve is not the same as "top-down" distance.

You can also try varying the Scale you place them at to minimize this.

Hope this helps,

Hi,
I know it caused by the curvature of the world in FSX. I can decrease the problem a bit.

I spilted the buildings in to two or more groups, reseted the center point and moved that group to 0,0 . Try to find the lat long that correspond to the new center by looking for that point in FSX over photoscenery. It came up nicely matched.

Problem solved, I guess!

Anyway, if there is such a tool would be good. So we can know to resize our map over the plane.

Or any one know how to calculate the meter in Gmax to be lat long, if we know the lat long of our center?

Next problem, when I make groundpoly to add detail, like grass, it never match because of the roundness FSX world. How we can solve this? Make a new certer is not easy, since there is no landmark to make new lat long.

Here is what I do...

If you group your buildings into several smaller areas, you can export the groups seperately. Be sure to give them a unique but logical name. Also, if you plan on aircraft being able to pass between them, i.e. hangars at an airport, then they MUST be grouped in rows, and not blocks. Blocks that cover taxiways will cause crashes. The exporter will create a crash zone from the furthest Top-Left, Top-Right, Bottom-Left, Bottom-Right and Vertical Veticies. Any aircraft that tries to pass through here will crash. Then other alternative, is to use the AttachPoint Tool, to make the buildings a "NoCrash" designation.

Then get the latest build of Airport Design Editor (ADE), and Library Creator XML.

Once you have exported your objects to the .MDL format, you can use the Library Creator to create a single .BGL Library, that you can then....

Open ADE and go to tools, select "Library Manager" and then "Add Objects" from the new window. Select the new Library that you just created and click save.

Now in ADE, you can import the same image that you used in GMax (right click->Add->Image), place it where you want, right click, select Add, Library Object, and in the list of libraries, select your newly created library. You can them place your groups more accurately, compile and test...

Hope that's what you're looking for.... ;)

Hi,

I would also suggest to export buildings with the reference point close to the centre. It not only makes the placement easier, but is also better for the performance.

For the ground polygon wizard of ModelConverterX I have made code that can convert between the flat earth projection used before FSX (and what you probably also use to determine the XY positions in GMax) and the geocentric coordinates used by FSX. If I would put a little GUI over that logic I think I could calculate the offset for you to correct for the curved earth. That would probably also require you to lower the building along the Z axis a bit.

Thanks Arno and others for the replies. All are good advices.

The building palcement is easy to solved but ground poly such as lines, runways is quite difficult.

I'll try ground polygon wizard of ModelConverterX.

Hi Arno,
I did try the ground poly wizard compare to conventional method. Both method are the same. Ground poly seem to stetch a bit and does not match with round photoscenery. May be I did somthing wrong. Are there anyone experience this?
