• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,
I wonder if there are any plugins that make Gmax model to be render and which program is the easiest. I cannot afford 3dmax, it is too expensive.
I did a search but quite confused there is somehow possible with Gmax render suite but the software is obsolete. Not available anywhere.
Thanks for any advices.
Best Regards,
Tic

I think this is what you're looking for Tic:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ffzzoymn41b

I downloaded it from that link a few months back anyway. I tried to verify that the file is still there but I after 15 minutes waiting for that bloated f*cking page to load, I was still staring at blank white so I gave up. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Maybe you'll also have better luck getting the plugin to render something :) .

Thirty seconds of Google for VRay in GMax found this "up-to-date" article:

http://xzzy.org/halo/gmax_render/
I did Google on that and follow that article already. It is not working, I cannot find Yafaray that works alone. I can only find the program that work with Blender. I followed that tutorial until I found the dead end that I could not follow. That's why I asked the question which one is the easiest, if someone might try that before. Sorry that I didn't mention because the question will be too long.
Thanks JR Robinson, I'll try that.

Not bad at all.
I tried to render the example provided with the program. Quite impressive.

But the bitmap cannot be PSD file.

Good you feedback with your trials, many people here, will be happy to know that gmax can render, tell if work.poeple said that rendering can be done with gmax

What would this tech be used for with respect to Gmax scenery design for FSX?

Does it do texture baking such as that seen used in FSDT and FT sceneries? Or is TB done in 3DS only.

.

I wish it could do texture baking.
But for now, at least, we can do texture by print screen and paste to the texture.

Keep your finger cross that developers will do this feature.
I'll try to do that later.
I'd appreciate if someone have their file in 3dmax and render compare to this program in gmax.

Renderers are completely pointless for Gmax and 3DSmax alike.

They never ever ever represent what you will see in sim, and frankly when designers post 'screenshots' of their products which are clearly just 3ds max renders, they're just con-artists in my view.

Clearly then you do not know what "Render to Texture" and "Texture Baking" is for, nor how it is used. I use Max9's RTT/TB features to create the bitmaps that are used in the sim.

It makes all the difference between flat and uninspiring bitmaps and ones that're alive, warm and most of all photorealistic.

OTOH, I do agree with you that posting hi-res Renders from Max are pretty much a waste of time and bandwidth...

...because -as you point out- it's what shows up in the SIM that's the final determiner for quality of work and proof of the pudding, so to speak! :D

Admittedly, I've failed to mention their use in texture baking, as you so rightly point out.

I neglegted to read the thread properly - and assumed that this gentlemen was another who just wanted the rendering facilities to post screenies of his latest project! Apologies jtanabodee.

It really irks me when developers do it though. Every time you get people responding with comments like 'Looks incredible - so smooth' and 'look at that detail!?' when actually if the model was of that quality in sim you'd have 0.2fps.

Yep, I'm looking for texture baking. Not to show the model render.
I think I have to read more for this. But if I can do texture baking, it would be very useful.
Export to MDL, using Model Converter to convert from MDL to 3ds and import to Blender might be another option.
