• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

GMax "Connect" command

Well many of you may know I am making scenery for EGBG.
I was going frot the "closed" hangars, windows and doors etc. I don't want to now since there are some hangars and wndows that are always open at EGBG. (apart from closing time, which hopefully I wish to animate this so they automatically close at a certain time and open and a certain time)

Anyway, moving on, I have the hangar I am making "open", only to find out there is no "Connect" button, like 3DSMAx, choose 2 edges, click connect, move the(m) edge(s) around.

I have looked on google for an explanation, on mentions "Collapse", this did no good, neither did "divide" "create".

So, can I actually add polys to an already modelled object without re-making the object with hundreds of polys just to get them in a certain position?

Thanks,

PS: Please look at my other new thread regarding pictures.

Edge mode, Divide, click on an edge to add a vertex.

Repeat for the other edge.

Still in Edge mode, Create, click on new vertices to create a new edge.

There are probably a dozen other ways to achieve the same goal...

Brilliant, thank you very much, I will be notifying you near completion.

Many Thanks, sir.

One other technique you might wish to try:

Select the poly(s) that make up the front of the hanger, Detach to new object temporarily.

Select the (new) object

Edge mode, Slice Tool, Rotate the Slice Tool's box as required, position as needed

Click on "Slice" to create new edge(s)

When satisfied, Attach to original hanger object, weld common vertices.

Another method - get the Meshtools script for gmax, it's got the connect option, and some other Max goodies as well.

Just two examples of what Meshtools can do.

(1) Task: Refine selected polies such as part of a fuselage into three evenly-spaced segments. Solution: (a) Select the edges to be divided. (b) Meshtools-Divide_Selected_Edges_to_3. (c) Meshtools-Connect. Done in two clicks.

(2) Task: Select polies on the inner part of a turbine, say there are two segments @ 64 polies each. Always tricky because Gmax has a tendency to pick unintended outer polies with disastrous conseqs. Meshtools Solution: (a) Select the inner bulkhead poly. (b) Meshtools_Convert selection to vertex level. THat gets you 64 vertices selected. (c) Meshtools_convert selection to poly level. That gets you one segment done, 65 polies selected (one is the bulkhead). Repeat (b) and (c) one more time. Four clicks to get you 129 inner segments selected. Go ahead and map 'em.

Meshtools works in editable poly mode only. One good reason to make that your base mode.
