• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

GMax GMAX Export problem Win11

Messages

Since my upgrade to Windows11 GMAX FSX Export does not work and it causes a CTD immediately when I press the Export button. It is not model related as even with a blank file it does the same. I run it as Admin.

It also happens when I try and change the export directory when I click on the top drop down to change folders.

Any ideas?

I'm getting the same problem...

I have tried a lot of options but nothing seems to work. It appears to be a read error with Explorer because I looked at just simply changing folders from the paths section and as soon as I clicked the drop down on the top it CTD.

The problem doesn't seem to exist with gmax, but with the FSX gamepack.

What may be possible is to create a Windows 10 (or earlier) USB boot drive. This would be a fully functioning Windows environment, and from that booted version of windows, run the FSX gamepack. I think you can still use the harddrives for storage, and to hold the gamepack and gmax itself... it just runs off of Windows 10 (or earlier if you want).

A long way round I guess. Maybe time to upgrade to Blender or 3Ds.

I'll have to pick up a USB 3.0 flash drive and see what it takes as far as time and effort.

Running windows 10 from a bootable flash drive does work. But you need to install the FSX SDK, and update it, then Install max, etc.. onto the drive. I couldn't find a way to have the usb boot to read my ssd's or hdd. I used Windows 10.

I have tried a lot of workarounds but the problem still persists.

The issue is with the file: gmax_MaxXML_gup. I am unable to read what this file does but if someone knows what is doing may be they can provide an insight.

After updating Win11 to 23H2, the gmax MDL exporter seems to be working fine.
By editing the abrowser.cfg using the method in the URL below, Material Navigator no longer crashes.
However, gmax crashes when I click on the file location pulldown in the file dialog.
This seems to be equivalent behavior to Win10.

The best method is to create a dual-boot partition on your PC, and make one of the bootable partitions WindowsXP

Just want to report
Same things happening on Windows 11 24H2
And same , still can't solve.

Also "By editing the abrowser.cfg" didn't work too .. installed Gmax on D:
Material Navigator crashes when click.
Also when touched drop down menu to change the folder .. crashes too.
