• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Gmax texture crop function not exported in fsx

Hi friends
I am using GAMX 1.2 for FSX .. I create a bitmap image 1024x1024 to put there all the small textures for the secondary parts of the aircraft.
Because the function CROP is available.
The problem is that applying the cropped part of the image ... everything is OK in Gmax, but exporting in FSX that's no way to see it....
Seems that the object is displayed with the complete image not the cropped part only. I did not forget to check the "Apply" tag ,after cropping, in the map parameters.
Do you know where is my mistake ?

Thanks a lot for any help ...

ciao
Ennio

Don't use the crop function.

That, unfortunately, is your mistake.

Create your textures and map to their exact proportion.

Read the Help files and learn about UVW Maps and the UVW Editor.

:) Ohhhh , yes Ok ... I understand .... the UV MAP is not the right way to texture ....
thanks a lot...

No no .... you can (and will) use the UVWMap function and UVW unwrap function.

Don't use the "Crop" function.

UVW Mapping is fractional (each dimension being 0.0 to 1.0)

You must map to the same texture dimension you are going to use in FS. Crop just completely muddles this.

Design the textures for the sheet, and map to them.

Could explain e little dit what means "fractional" ...
sorry ...

Anyway I will create a bitmap whit the textures of 2 objects and by UVWMAP I'll selct which part of it should be for the object and which for the other mouving the map along ...
without using CROP...

I will tray ....
Thanks..
Ennio

By fractional .... I mean that the UVW coordinates that you map are stored as a proportion (or "fraction") of the overall dimensions of the map/texture.

Thus whether the texture 1024 or 512 or 256 the "relative" position on the sheet is the same.

I have no idea how a texture crop can be exported from Gmax, but it is unnecessary and will confuse.

WRT Chrome, that is dependent on material settings.

Learn:
Geometry --> Map --> Unwrap --> Export

Then:
Complex material settings.
