• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi...you can use CVA_converter to convert gmax to fsds, and then fsds to export to x...

See you

FRR

from gmax, you would have to export to a format such as QUAKE MD3 (you can use the Tempest converter from the turbosquid.com website), and then use a format converter (such as Deep Exploration, etc.) to go from MD3 to x.

I am not too sure if a program like Lithunwrap can take your UVW mapped 3DS file and export it to an x file directly.

LithUnwrap v1.3 can certainly export as either a text or binary DirectX *.x file, compressed or uncompressed.

It also saves as
3d Studio *.3ds,
3d Studio *.asc,
Wavefront *.obj,
Lightwave *.lwo,
AutoCAD .dxf,
Truespace 1.0 *.cob,
MilkShape3d *.ms3d
Vampire TM-R *.nod

thanks for the info folks but lithunwrap dos'nt import .Gmax.

i did find something interesting HERE though. this setup uses Fs9 sdk to convert MDL then someother tool to convert to .X. the problem is i don't know where to get the fs9 SDK because the link they provide is dead:cool:

Links are in the Downloads section of this site :).

Felix had already posted that one would need the .md3 (Quake) exporter to export from GMax to .md3 format. I then posted that LithUnwrap v1.3 would load the .md3 and export as the file types listed... :D

I believe I also posted in another forum that FS2004+MM+MC would allow one to capture the intermediate .x file.

As it happens, I've had a "Plug-and-Play" package available on request that basically is pre-configured for such use. All that's required is to unzip to the ..\gmax\gamepacks\fs2004\plugins folder.
