• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,
I'm sorry if this has been posted. May be I used wrong Key word and I could not find the answer.
Can we import the lines of roads and rivers to S-builder?
If that is possible, it would be easy to modify terrain without drawing lines by hand.
Regards,

Hello:

AFAIK, we can "Append" ESRI Shape *.SHP files to SBuilderX and assign various attributes to the points, poly-lines and/or polygons once they are "imported".

Also, with Google Maps and Google Earth I don't think we would have access to, nor the right to use their vector data.

BTW: Google Earth free edition does allow manual tracing of the maps and/or aerial imagery as points, poly-lines, and/or polygons which can be saved as a KML, then converted from KML to 'basic type' Golden Surfer Blanking *.BLN files ...which can be "Apended" to SBuilderX < thanks, Rhumbaflappy ! :D >.

So, to avoid manual tracing, one instead could try "Appending" smaller data sets extracted from the rather large Open Street Map (aka "OSM") *.SHP file sets which are often discussed in the Autogen Forum here at FS Developer.

Those data sets can be downloaded free, and their use for projects in FS is not restricted, AFAIK.

CAVEAT: One would need to reduce the size of the *.SHP file data from the larger packages into smaller sets via a GIS application for subsequent use in SBuilderX, given its notorious memory limitations.

Hope this helps ! :)
