Google sketchup to prepar3d v2.5 using MCX

Hi,

I am a modeling newbie, I am trying to create models in google sketchup and exporting them to prepar3d v2 to place them in airport. I have been following the tutorial but have been stuck at export to mdl part.

I have the latest version of prepar3d V2.5 and the SDK. I downloaded MCX (stable version) and tried changing the paths of different options to that of P3D SDK and was able to export a MDL file but it was only 4Kb and library converter x does not accept this file.

Then i tried the development verison of MCX; changed all the options and exported to find a file 6kb, i am attaching the error logs and the screenshots of all the settings. I hope someone can guide to a solution on this. I do not have fsx SDK; however i have fsx acceleration pack installed but do not have the CD now.

I was hoping if someone can guide or point to the relevant information to solve this problem. I keep getting
CRASHTREE no granularity specified.

The error says that it cannot find the modeldef.xml
Please check, if the modeldef.xml is at the configured location F:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 SDK 2.5.12946.0\Modeling SDK\bin
Is it possible, that you uninstalled the SDK and installed it again in F:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2?
The main path for P3Dv2 is set to this directory.
Perhaps modeldef.xml is in this directory:
F:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\Modeling SDK\bin

Hi Jdberg,

I intially made that mistake, then i changed it to correct modeldef.xml in F:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 SDK 2.5.12946.0\Modeling SDK\bin
but now i get crashtree : no granularity specified error. I think may be i must have missed something.

thank you so much for looking into it.

regards,

rony

Is it possible, that your model is very small? Try to add a larger object like a cube of 5m x 5m x 5m and export that again.
I always get this error when I try to export small things like pylons, small signs etc.
The trick I use is add a dummy object like the above and place it below ground.

Hi jdberg,

I tried much bigger geometry and different textures, i also tried on buildings that i downloaded from warehouse but i have the same result. is there any other way to model and place objects in prepar3d v2 scenery. i am following all the scenery steps in tutorial maybe i am not doing something that affects granularity error.

thanking you in advance

rony

Can you perhaps post the relevant part of the event log again here?
In your first file the crashtree message is not an error its just an information like this?
XtoMDL Information CRASHTREE no granularity specified
So the error log would be helpful at least I hope so.

I just fixed it jdberg,
but i did a work around. I got fsx sdk and used MCX (all the options to the relative fsx folders/ exe) to export mdl file for fsx. then i used library converter to create a library and add the mdl model it. i used ADE to place the object into P3D V2.

thank you so much following up with the post.
