• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v3 GP objects/lines only displaying randomly

Hi,

I've been working on a project for some time without a problem and tonight, after I compiled my project once again to check the latest changes, I get the below:

As you can see, the taxi lines are supposed to have yellow with black base but only the base is displayed. Same goes for the parking numbers where I used polys which never were a problem.
In other parts of the airport, I have polys that I use in different areas. Sometimes they are displayed, sometimes not.

I have checked, the textures are there. I have tested by restarting P3D, ADE, recompiling and get the same result...

Any help is appreciated as I'm basically at standstill...

Frederic, we're a little short on information - especially since the image did not get included ion your post. What version of ADE are you using? We also need your .ad4 file to even comment on such issues.

You have designated this a P3Dv3 issue. You should be using ADE 1.71 for P3D which specifically supports P3Dv3's use of GPs. I have compiled (with 1.71) and installed your airport, and the line backing is displayed normally.

OK. let me try with 1.71.

In the meantime, I have deleted some of the latest GP and recompiled and it seems to be working fine. I will add them step by step to see which is causing the issue. thx

You have created an extremely complex airport. It's going to take a BIG machine to execute it properly, especially when you've got a lot of AI. You could reduce the GP load considerably by using a single GP line for your taxiway shoulders. You may have to create a custom texture to get the perpendicular spacing you want, but it will be a lot more efficient than individual perpendiculars.

I suspect the missing lines using 1.70 are a result of some system limit being hit.

As well, I'd be interested in knowing how you got all those standalone effects to work.

I am still struggling (nothing appears now) but will surely find my way through.

With regards to the fx, I have excluded them for the time as they are the ones killing my fps, not the gp.

BTW, with the new compiler, I see the file went through the roof with 23mb where it was around 5mb before. Any reason?

thx for your help anyway

Presumably, you are referring to the "..._GP.bgl" file. If so, ADE 1.70 generates FS8-style GPs, i.71 generates P3D GPs - a totally different (and much less memory-efficient) technology but which, nonetheless, must be used for P3D going forward.

I pointed out yesterday a way to make significant "savings" with GPs. In a similar vein, you could use ADE edge lights for most of you runway/taxiway edge-lighting needs instead of effects.

Don

Gotcha!
I will run some optimization stuff like having more longer lines that several shorter. This airport only has a few edge lights (blue) so I use models for that. My struggle is the green centerlines which will be my next challenge :)
