• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX GPS Map outside FSX

Hi!

Is there any way to access and display the GPS gauge, or just the map in it, outside the FSX application (on another computer for example)?

I guess you cant render FSX gauges outside the FSX rendering engine? I don't need the 3d rendering, just the 2d rendering of the gauge (cause the second computer isn't as near as powerful as the FS-computer).

Any suggestions or ideas?

In short, no. The FS "GPS" is an in-process module (fs9gps.dll) that cannot be run outside of FS itself.

However, there is software available that will allow you to have your networked computer's monitor "seen" as simply another monitor that your FS computer can use.

It's called MaxiVista: http://www.maxivista.com/

I've been using it for years to make both my antique laptop and a few other of my older computers to be used as "extra monitors..."

After FS Panel Studio, it's the best $40 investment I've ever made... :)

Thanks! Nice, that might work!

If there isn't any other way to get a moving map on another computer that is. I was thinking Google Earth but that's maybe a bit more advanced.

There are any number of "add on programs" that will display some sort of "moving map" on a second computer. The main advantage of MaxiVista is that you aren't limited to any specific solution. Its monitor(s) simply act as though they were connected to your main computer.
