• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA grass using fs2k2 export

Hey gents,

For various reasons, I need to export volumetric grass using the fs2k2 method, which works fine, except there doesn't seem to be an option anywhere to disable shading.

In the FSX SDK it's "Assume vertical normal"... how can I do this using the fs2k2 export method?

Really appreciate it in advance

Why would you be using FS2002 methods/tools to create FSX object?

I dont think I fully understand

It's for a ground polygon, which must use the FS2002 format to avoid flashing.

Hi,

The assume vertical normal option can be replicated by making the normals vertical yourself. That's is how MDL Tweaker does it for FS2004 MDL files. For FS2002 files however I think you would manually have to tweak the normals in the ASM code.

To get rid of the shadow you would have to tweak the ASM code as well, you need to remove the SHADOWCALL command in it.

Thanks Arno..
That's of course always the only option with Fs2k2 ASM files. However, I've already searched the forums up and down and can't seem to find any reference to tweaking the ASM file for this. And leads on how to tweak them?

Well, the two things I mentioned above are quite simple.

For the shadow remove the SHADOW_CALL command.

For the normals, update all normals in the vertex list to be 0 1 0
