• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

Ground Poly Wizard Detail Layer Issue

I'm updating a few ground polys for P3D V4 and have an issue I've been unable to sort out relating to the Detail texture layer. I have set the Detail scale to various numbers between 1 and 36 and instead of tiling the texture it is stretching it, the higher the setting the more the detail layer is stretched.

The Bump texture is tiling nicely with similar scale settings.

I'm not sure if there is something I am doing wrong or perhaps an issue with the Ground Poly Wizard in MCX, or with the latest P3D V4.1 bglcomp.exe file.

Any help would be greatly accepted.

Hi,

In P3D v4 you can set the scaling for the x and y direction seperately. The material settings have a lot of extra detail map settings.

Be aware that the MCX preview doesn't use these new settings yet when rendering.

You can, all the settings are there in the material editor. The effect of them is not shown in the preview though.

Thanks Arno, changing the setting ‘Detail scale V’ to the required setting fixed it. I think we have a few new things to get a better understanding of for P3D V4. Makes for an interesting life.

That is what I was wondering about as well "Detail V" seems to be the one I have to adapt.
But I wonder how come I did not have to do that to have everything as it should before Arno updated his MCX :(.

PS: I am loading a previous scenery with the same material settings and then the one I compiled with the updated MCX and its extra P3Dv4 settings. It will take a while but something in there should be set default as it was before, Arno!

If you don't export in the P3D v4 mdl format, but in the P3D v2 mdl format you don't have to worry about the new material settings. But in the new format you get extra options.
