• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Ground Polygon issue

Hi all,

I've recently been making changes to my first airport project (RAAF Base Amberley, South East Queensland - Australia) as seen in the screenshots below. I've modeled a single runway to be a ground poly in Sketchup, using high resolution aerial imagery. The only issue with this poly is where the textures connect, there is the black line (obviously it needs to be there). When it shows in the sim, there are distinct lines where there shouldn't be. Can anyone help?

Thanks
PS Also, are you able to add alpha layers and night textuers to objects?

Here are the screenshots.

In FSX, just in front and to the left of the aircraft you can see the distinct lines where the textures meet:

Have you done all the runways and taxiways in Sketchup or is that just the photo underlay.......

Hi,

Which FS version are you using? I think the issue you are seeing is common with ground polygons. You need to adjust your texture mapping so that you don't use the outside pixel. Then you won't get the visible line.

About the night textures, I am working on a function in ModelConverterX to add them. Alpha channel are just added in the texture image itself.

Thanks for the reply Arno. I am using FSX Acceleration. Could you please tell me how to go about the texture mapping? When I created the polygon, I simply entered the distances onto a square and added the imagery onto the square as a texture, so I am not quite sure how to do this. Thanks

Hi,

From SketchUp this will be a bit tricky indeed, since you do not have so easy control over the texture mapping (not UV unwrap like function). Basically you need to make sure that the outside pixels of the texture are not used. So you map the remaining area of the texture.

Ok so I used MCX to convert it to a .3DS file and imported it into GMax, and unrwapped each textured section. I adjusted the UVW mapping and when I went to export it I got an error from MakeMDL (I'm using MDL Commander btw). It says:

Start! (C:\gmax\gamepacks\fs2004\RWY15)
Loading X C:\gmax\gamepacks\fs2004\RWY15...
ERROR: Invalid X file: C:\gmax\gamepacks\fs2004\RWY15.
Error!
Error!

EDIT: I made a simple box and then exported it through MDL Commander and it worked without any issues.

Hi,

I also not really have an idea. The error message does not contain that much useful information. Since the X file is made by the gamepack when you are exporting, I am not sure what can be wrong with it. This is the all the content of the LOG file right?
