• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello,
I'm having a bizarre problem with my ground polys and the crash detection system in FSX, I unchecked the "crash" option on the makemdl but it looks like it's not working. Anytime I start a flight the aircraft crashes immediately. Any thoughts about this?

I've found the solution. Thanks

.... and the solution was ......

The crash boxes was too big around the airport and I still don't have the solution to make them smaller. So I used the "no crash" option on all the buildings and objects. It had nothing to do with ground polys.

If there is a specific object you could try exporting through ModelconverterX using the Crashbox Granularity settings on the exporter, and see if that tightens things up without too much performance hit.

Thanks I will try that. I didn't know the crashbox granularity was for that purpose.

And keep in mind that with scenery objects, scaling down the object when placing them does not scale down the crash box...

I see. I tried the granularity in MCX and it's looking good except it seems to have some performance hit.

That's an interesting factoid I haven't heard before. Though I don't like object crashboxes in general.

Hi,

Yeah, we just couldn't figure out why we were crashing along one taxiway - turns out we had placed a hangar nearby, but had scaled it down from the original object. The crash box of the original object (scale=1) was right next to the hangar walls, but once scaled down was much larger than the new smaller object (looked to us about the same size as the original object). Once we either moved the hangar further away or removed the crash box it worked fine.

Hope this helps,

To my mind, the whole concept of "crash boxes" is just wrong in the context of FS9 and FSX environments.

If we had "visible aircraft damage" such as a crumpled wingtip or something, it would make sense to keep crash boxes.

But, to just have the sim dump you out on your bum with a silly message is just stupid!

Hello:

Some additional info about working with crash boxes and updated link to a very cool utility by Zdeněk Kussior (aka "anatolij"):

I just had a crash in my scenery and I cannot seem to find what caused it. I don't think the fuel truck can cause crashes with the 747 wings? Anyway this is why I hate crashes and they make you restart your whole flight. Silly crashes!
