• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hand coding missions

I have only just joined, so hi all.

I have a few minor questions about something I am trying to make, so first of all a little background:

I am a member of a Virtual Military, USEC, and we are running a Flight School for new members to progress through. At the moment we run it with a flight file provided and after a certain amount of PIREPS submitted, they become eligible to sit an online checkride to earn virtual wings.

What I am trying to do is script a very basic mission that will start a 60 minute counter when they leave the ground and after 60 minutes it will script in a successful end. For now that will be sufficient and as I gain experience, I can add stuff to it.

I have spent the best part of three days scouring the Web on how to run the SDK and without starting another thread about it, would like to know how hard it would be to just hand code the mission files for such a basic mission?

I am getting Acceleration on Friday, so I think a fresh reinstall of everything, including SDK v2 should maybe see me gain the Mission Creation toolmenu, but I really need to, excuse the pun, get off the ground before then. It'd be appreciated if anyone could help me out with this, I have my HTML files and images all done and have completed a basic flightplan and weather file. So it's just the XML file I am required to do, I believe.

If anyone can spend 5 minutes helping, it would be greatly appreciated by over 50 people who are waiting to do our course.

Paul.

I'd say install Acceleration and see if you can get the ObjectPlacementTool to run - shouldn't be too hard as there are quite a lot of threads here to help with this.

Then if you have that it's only a matter of 20 minutes to setup the mission you want to have. :)

If you need more help, let us know.

Thanks for the reply.

I have read every single post on this board about getting the tools menu to work, and I know how much you like those threads (:P) hence I won't lower this one into the same old, same old.

I will do as you say, surely something good must come out of a fresh install of everything. If it's as easy as 20 minutes, then I can wait. We have a deadline of Sunday to get this working, hence my eagerness to start hand-coding it.

Hi,

I've attached a basic mission starting at Cascade Locks (picked at random). Hopefully this should get you going. You'll need to add your briefing files etc. - the paths are listed in the ScenarioMetadata object in the XML.

Jim, thanks kindly. I will see what I can do with this.

I hope that once I have the expansion and the fresh install, I can start dabbling with missions more often.
