Hangar Door Question

Hello Everyone,

Is it possible to create a hangar door that is open during the day and closed at night? Is there a tutorial for such an effect? I have never worked with effects before so I am looking for a tutorial for a first timer.

Thank you for you assistance!

Hey,

you may use arnos "Conditional Animation Tool" (CAT) for that, available in the download section.
Take a look at the tutorial.
I guess "Time of the Day" is the variable you are looking for :)

Thanks Thunderbolt!

It appears that CAT only works in FS9. is there an FSX compatible program that can pull this off?

I'm curious as to whether I need to animate the doors, or whether I can have two models of the hangar, one with the doors open and the other with them closed, and have the simulator switch the two an a given time. Is this possible?

Thank you for your help!

you give me an idea, if you want just see doors closed at night , without animation just have to change this in the night textures, night textures with closed doors, simple, :o

Hello Tejal,

That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I haven't created any night flies yet. Is there a tutorial out there that would explain how to do it?

Thanks for your help!

oh, my friend I have a scenery stuck because I haven't got the hang of the night textures, I think that is there when the hard work begin, I mean adding lights, shadows and thing like that.

Hi,

You just create a night version of the texture, and name it using an _LM addition to the texture name.

I have only done this for FS9, but I assume FSX works the same? To create a transparent hangar door during the day, for the day texture create a black alpha channel covering only the hangar door. Do not include that black alpha channel in the night texture and it will be visible during the night. I'm not sure what it will look like during dusk and dawn, though (both textures are visible at the same time then).

Hope this helps,

yes, I had not think of the alpha channel for the day texture, very good, but jon18 if you want to drive in the hangar, you maybe must thing in another aproach to make that then, because then it would be two different model or a model with animations which I don't know how could be done.

Conditional animation using FSX SDK simply Can. Not. Be. Done.

However, compiling using the FS9 SDK + Arno's CAT utility works just fine in FSX. :D
