• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Helipad parking

How is a helipad parking done? I placed a Helipad on my airport but apparently I also need to place a parking spot on top of it for it to show in the selection of parkings.

However, since it is a helipad does one still has to attach the helipad parking place to a taxiway?

And... is there a COPTER PARKING in FS? I do not see it in the list of parking types in FSX Planner.

Place a Start over the helipad. Make sure to give it a start type of Helipad and a runway number of 00 or similar that is not a runway number for any other runway or helipad. Helipads are not generally attached to the taxiway network - helicopters do not usually taxi :)

There is no Helicopter parking spot. you created it when creating the Helipad,

You are correct about the placement Jon and no connection to a taxiway in FS (unless you wish to use AI helicopters). Progressive taxi will show the route to the runway even without a taxiway.

However:

helicopters do not usually taxi :)
That is not strictly true, if you visit Aberdeen you will see all helicopters "hover-taxi" to the active.

Yeah - I figured saying that would get me in trouble after I posted :)

Yup some helis do taxi by hovering and some even have some sort of small wheels on the front of their "skates" or at least I recall having seen so.

Thanks for the information on helipads, that was nowhere to be found and I will correct my helipad. That is a good FAQ entry IMHO.

Funny thing happenned with my helipad now that I made it like this:

Altitude: 33' (same as airport flatten)
Heading: 175*
Type: HELIPAD
Number: 00
Designator: NONE

When I select the flight I can choose the HELIPAD instead of a runway or parking spot, so far so good. But then when I press FLY NOW and the thing loads then my helicopter is shown splashing in the water! the closest water area is some 80 feet north of the helipad.

I just can't understand this FSX, you design airports and it FSX does what it wants, design scenery spending hours on end adjusting landclasses which never match up with the real thing (trees that are larger than life) and then FSX does what it wants not showing the areas you marked as towns, not showing the houses you placed, showing "white coral beaches" as some muddy brown areas and well, sometimes totally disregarding that you placed a forest there!. FSX has a mind of its own.
