• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Helipad - railing animation?

Hi guys,

Im creating a helipad at the moment, and I've just realised something from the photos Im using.

There is a railing surrounding the helipad, however, when a helicopter is landing / departing, the railing goes from being vertical to being horizontal in line with the helipad, acting like a "safety net" type of thing.

Now, ideally I would love to be able to make it so when the pilot puts a freq in his nav radio, the railing would go down, and the same to get it up. If this involves a long difficult procedure then I think i will just put it in horizontally. the railing is just made of a single box and Im using textures to make it transparent.

Could anyone explain the procedure on how I could achieve this?

Thanks!

Daryl

Hi Daryl,

This should be possible. The first step is that you have to animate the movement of the railing in GMax. Nick has written a nice tutorial on doing animated gates. The techniques for your animation are similar, but they will be much simpler :).

After that you can use CAT to trigger this animation with the condition you want (either NAV frequency or an helicopter that is close enough to the path).

Thanks for the reply Arno,

I will try do the animation, but then would you be able to help with CAT? Ive never used it :tapedshut :o

Thanks,

Daryl

Sure, but when you have the animation working the hardest part is done already :). For CAT you can watch the video tutorial for example, that should already make it clear. And if you have questions, just ask.

Hi Arno - I just came to post that I had watched the video and that things were alot clearer now! :D

That tutorial is superb, and very concise. I will try it and let you know how I get on.

Thanks Stevo as well :)

Cheers,

Daryl

WOW!

It worked perfectly! CAT is unbelievable! Thank you Arno! Thank you Nick! I can now do things I could have only wished for previously!

Thanks a million! :wizard: :wizard:

Hey Daryl...

Is this for IFSD2? :rotfl:

Can't wait to see it...

I know I keep promising to do more video tutorials... I really must!

Cheers
