• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Help a noob with his project

Hi everyone! I hope I'm writing on the right section, sorry if not.

Since years ago I'm dreaming to create the main heliport of my city (Barcelona) for FS9, and now i'm ready to start with it.

The problem is that I don't have any developing experience for FS. I just know using Sketchup, but not sure if it will be useful for this project.

I would be pleased to know everything to create this heliport such as programs, tips...

I'll be more specific about the project:
I'm not using any scenery addon. There's a problem (I think ) the heliport is on the docks, but that docks are not on the FS default terrain so I should create them then add the heliport on it. Obviously it would be nice that choppers can land instead of get sinking :D

Here's a photo where it should be placed:

And here is the real one:

It is already developed for airhispania scenery, but I want to develop it on high detail :p

Besides developing the heliport I also want to make the real helicopter paints for the choppers in FS9, and I don't have idea to do that

I hope someone can help me with this project

Greeetings from Barcelona.

Hi,

I think you could use SketchUp for this project. In SketchUp you can model the heliport and hte docks. You will need my ModelConverterX tool to convert the objects to MDL/BGL files for use in FS2004. In ModelConverterX you can also add a platform to the helideck, so that it becomes hard and you can land on it.

I made ceuta algeciras only with sketchup, but I think sketchup is a little more hard about the framerates, because you use more textures, you should design that part of the port to place the heliport because design the entire port of Barcelona I think should be complicated, and read a ton of tutorials and threads, there is no magic, :duck:
More interesting for this projects is to look for another heliport near of this one and include him in the scenery too.

Problably there are models alrready done for the port of Barcelona, I saw that bridge made in "3d warehouse" the google sketchup store for the models. and can convert them for use in Fs.
Are you familiar with tools like Modelconvertex, LibraryCreatorXml, Ade and Sketchup itself. :o, ? All this tools make the scenery making more easy.

I'am really not...
I've just made my building in Sketchup and placed it on google earth. Yeah I really liked modelling btw :)

Hi Heli3, well at least you manage the english in someway, there is no option:o, here in the wiky there are many usefull tutorials, http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Build_your_house_using_SketchUp this is for work with sketchup in Fs. Usefull tools like Modelconvertex and LibraryCreatorXml can be found here, are from Arno, and Ade http://www.mediafire.com/?c6ozim7wwcmomjr.
Once you get the hang you will see it's easy.
Here people have made a lot for scenery developing, it's great.
Well, if you are not familirized with scenery developing it can seem a great task, a high mountain, but you can't begin knowing all the stuff. so step by step.

Ok now i'm seeing i don't need just a modelling program.

Im not just going to create an hangar and a bridge, I will make more things such as a building on the other side of the dock, and every single detail the heliport has. Not sure if i'll use photorealistic textures however I have some experience with it. :D

So, what's the first step should I do?

first of all try tu put a building into fsx, and learn what is the process, but it's hard to say you are like to cross the gibraltar strait and don't know swim. but I'll link a post where some tips are given.http://www.avionmagazine.com/foro/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=34&start=0&sid=2a108ac833de3449bdeb53e49c91eb02 in this case he use Gmax for modelling, but you can apply it to sketchup
Look here and there to get a image or idea of the matter. in my opinion finally I think the worst of all is to get good modelling skills to make objects and you are saying you manage well, it's important, really.
Here a link to download a tutorial about the use of "object placement tool", to put object in the secnery, this was very usefull for me and still I follow this method for my sceneries.http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?&DLID=140601
If you have not installed the Sdk you should. to get the all this tools and work with them.

I've found this tutorial in spanish about getting the sketchup objects on the simulator (FS9, dont forget ;)) that is my main doubt.

He uses programs such as model converter X, library maker, and he says that SDK should be previously installed. I don't understand it at all as there's too much things  Could someone resume the steps must I follow?:confused::confused:
