• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

HI, NEW TO FSDEVLPR. READ TUTORIALS AND TRIED WITHOUT SUCCESS TO GET LIGHTS INTO FS9. USING GMAX AND GAMEPACKS. DID THE TWO EDIBLE MESH BOXES AND PLANE THING NO PROB. NOW I GO TO MAXSCRIPTS AND RUN SCRIPT AND THATS WHEN THE FOG ROLLS IN AND IM IN IFR CONDITIONS. THE FIRST SCREEN GIVES ME A CHOICE OF TWO OPTIONS AND I CHOOSE THE "ATTACH EFFECT.MS" THING. THEN I GET A NAVIGATIOR TYPE SCREEN. NONE OF THE TUTORIALS MENTIONED WHEERE I AM SUPPOSED TO NAVIGATE TO??? (I TRIED C; GMAX, GMAX GAMEPACKS, GMAX GAMEPACKS FS2004, AND A LOT OF OTHER PLACES) THEN AFTER CLICKING OK I GET THE NEXT SCREEN WITH SEVERAL RADIO CHOICES. THE TUTORIAL SAYS TO CHOSE "EFFECTS" TO NOW IT ASKS ME TO NAME THE EFFECT???? I HAVE TRIED BOX02, PLANE01, OMNI01 SSPOTO1, ETC. THEN THERE IS A BOX THAT WANTS YOU TO SELECT THE EFFECT. IT SAYS "NONE" AND THE DROP DOWN ALSO SAYS NONE?? THEN I CLICK ON ATTACH THE EFFECT AND THERE IS NO RESPONSE EXCEPT THE OBJECTS ARE NOW NAMED BOX, ETC WITH ATTACH ADDEDED TO THE NAME. I EXPORT THEM LIKE ALL THE REST OF MY SCENERY (WHICH WORKS FINE) BY USING THE EXPORT, FLIGHT SIMULATOR .MDL WHICH GOES TO GAMEPACKS AND I TAKE THE XML AND RUN IT THROUGH THE BGL MAKER AND THEN DROP IT OFF INTO THE FS ADDON SCENERY FILE AND THEN USE EZSCENERY PROGRAM TO DROP OFF MY OBJECTS WHERE I WANT THEM. I AM MISSING SOMETHING OBVIOUS AND WILL FEEL REALLY STUPID WHEN I FIND OUT WHAT IT IS. PLEASE HELP TALK ME DOWN AND GET ME HEADED BACK TOWARD THE LIGHT. THANKS IN ADVANCE (I'M NOT A TECH GUY SO PLEASE EXPLAIN ANY HEAVY COMPUTEREEZE. KSAN1:rolleyes:

Hi, new to FSDeveloper.

Read tutorials and tried without success to get lights into FS9.

Using GMax and Gamepacks. Did the two editable mesh boxes and plane thing with no problem.

Now I go to MaxScripts and run script, then that’s when the fog rolls in and I’m in IFR conditions.

The first screen gives me a choice of two options, and I choose the "Attach Effect.MS" thing.

Then I get a navigator type screen, but none of the tutorials mentioned where I am supposed to navigate to ???

(I tried C:\GMax\GMax Gamepacks\GMax Gamepacks FS2004, and a lot of other places); then after clicking ok, I get the next screen with several radio button choices.

The tutorial says to choose "Effects" to now it asks me to name the Effect????

I have tried box02, plane01, omni01, sspoto1, etc., then there is a box that wants you to select the Effect; it says "none" and the drop down also says none??

Next I click on "attach the Effect", and there is no response, except the objects are now named “Box”, etc with ‘attach’ added to the name.

I export them like all the rest of my scenery (which works fine) by using the Export > Flight Simulator *.MDL ...which goes to Gamepacks.

Next I take the XML and run it through the BGL maker, drop it into the [FS install path]\Addon Scenery\Scenery sub-folder, and then use EZ-Scenery program to place my objects where I want them.

I am missing something obvious, and will feel really stupid when I find out what it is.

Please help talk me down and get me headed back toward the light.

Thanks in advance (I'm not a tech guy, so please explain any heavy “computer-eze”.

KSAN1

Hello:

Welcome to FSDeveloper ! :)

Feel free to correct my interpretation of your opening post.

I'd like to offer a few friendly suggestions which may help you get a reply from someone more knowledgeable in FS Development using GMAX (for FS2004), and attaching an Effect to a 3D model.

Bear in mind that this advice comes from someone notorious for long "run-on sentences". :p

1.) Using all UPPER CASE IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING in online forums; use mixed case

2.) Use complete words, with minimal "texting" type abbreviations

3.) Use Carriage Returns (aka "Enter" key) between sentences (there is no charge to do this ! ;) ); use of commas "," and semi-colons ";" is also free of charge.

4.) Group sentences by subject and/or steps in a described process or workflow ...into paragraphs

5.) Turn on spell check in your internet browser

6.) Consider posting this query in the FSDeveloper "GMax and 3DS Max" forum:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=27

Technically, your query might fit into the topics discussed in the Special Effects forum, but usually this forum deals more often with the coding and placement of such Effects as stand-alone objects, and less often with the attachment of Effects to 3D Objects.

And most importantly, IMHO, since more of your query seems to involve the workflow to attach a Effect to a 3D object inside the GMAX GUI (...and the FS2004 version of GMAX at that !), IMHO, you will be more likely to get help from folks who use GMAX frequently up in the above suggested forum.

BTW: Please tell us...

* What 3D object are you trying to attach an Effect to: a default or custom made object ?

* What Effect are you trying to attach to the 3D object: a default or custom coded Effect ?

Hope this helps you get some answers to your questions !

PS: If by any chance you are using all upper case characters due to visual impairments, be aware that you can locally "Zoom" the screen size in your web browser:

Mozilla FireFox or MS Internet Explorer: <Ctrl> and <+> keys = Zoom In; <Ctrl>and <-> keys = Zoom Out

Alternatively, in either browser: <Ctrl> key and <MouseWheel 'Up' > = Zoom In; <Ctrl> key and <MouseWheel 'Down' > = Zoom Out
