• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Help! with airports modification!!!

:confused:Hi there everyone! im new here and hope im in the right spot for this post.i hope i don't sound like a noob but i really don't know which direction to take so here my dilema.

i live in alberta,canada and since our international airport (CYEG) is being upgraded with a multi-million dollars expansion i would like to know what programs i should use to be able to that.

#1. the afcad etc... looks fine and is very close to the real world data.
#2. all i would like to do i change the TERMINAL building itself and nothing else.(i.e. make it look as close the real thing as it is now)
#3. i would have to add more parking stalls as the default afcad doesn't depict the real thing

If anyone could tell me what programs to use and kind of give a direction to a tutorial i would GREATLY!!!! appreciate it!!

I think you are asking about an airport design program - these can be used to modify the parking at an airport, add new spots and taxi links etc. If you want to design your own terminal building then you will need a 3D design tool like GMax, but you can also change the terminal to something created by someone else or perhaps build it up using what are called Generic Buildings.

There are three airport design programs that work with FSX:
  • AFX - This is payware but does not need you to have the deLuxe or Gold edition of FSX. It does not handle the placement of buildings.
  • Airport Design Editor - this is free but does require the deLuxe or Gold editions of FSX. It can handle the placement of buildings
  • FSX Planner - this is free but does require the deLuxe or Gold editions of FSX. It can handle the placement of buildings

You can also place buildings using an object placement tool. Instant Scenery is payware (from the same author as AFX) but has the advantage that you can place objects in the FSX environment (live preview)
 
Thanx Scruffy (Jon) i think were on the same track as i have all of those utilities (tools) that you mentioned. i would like to take the terminal at my home airport and expand on it (i.e. adding another section (box) and more jetways.

Is this possible with the programs u mentioned payware or freeware and is it a matter of arranging them in FSX and then applying textures to them?

You can certainly extend using generic buildings or library objects - but if you first want to create a custom building then the alternative would be to use a 3D design tool - I think the new kid on the block is Google Sketchup. All the airport designers for FSX should be able to add jetways.
