FS2004 Help with photoscenery

Hello,

I'm finding a way so I can add a photoscenery to an airport. I tried to install SBuilder for FS9, but installation fails ('Internal Server Error' when I try to register). Would it be better to make a ground polygon and apply the photoreal textures on it? Any help would be appreciated as I'm now pretty frustrated...

photoreal would be the way to go. Try to get a hold of Tirado. Maybe he might have an answer. He is the author of Sbuilder.

If you can, switch to FSX and use SbuilderX. Or... use both FS9 and FSX. :)

Now- if someone would just give us a step by step procedure..... not one that assumes you know this or that, but step by step.

I can get my backgorund and a map from that background. At that point I do not know if I am to take the background or the map to my paint editor. With one of those I am supposed to try to match the colors to the surrounding default colors (they tend to be hazy), then blend mask it.... series of black, greys, white to blend it into the surrounding default,,, attach _B.tif keeing the rest of the name the same then compile. I'm almost there not quite.

From the air photoreal looks great. On the ground it's crummy ... imo. Nice way to place scenery objects with in the right place then delete the photoreal or keep it... your choice. Bob

Hi Bob, once you have a map down in SBuilderX, select it and click the "compile" button but don't tick "copy .bgls to scenery folder". This will make an .inf in the SBuilderX313\Tools\Work folder that you can use to compile the .bgl at any time.

Sort everything in that folder by date modified and you should have at the top of the list a Lxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.BMP and a "Photo0x.INF". If you drag this inf into your "Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Terrain SDK" folder and drop it on resample.exe it will compile the photoscenery.

You can open the Lxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.BMP in photoshop then and edit to your hreart's content. When you have it adjusted to your liking save it and drop the .inf on resample.exe and let it compile the photoscenery. Try it in the sim. Still not right? Edit it in PS a bit more and drop the .inf again until you get it adjusted the way you like it.

Will work on this at a test airport I will make for this purpose so I don't mess up the virtual world.... get mad.... kick the cats.... beat up the wife.... and become a suicide bomber! hahaha.

So far it is working. As long as I don't get a hazy picture from the sattilite I'm ok. I'm not good at trying to correct colorizing to match surrounding default colors. I'm doing much better at my blend mask, thanks to Robystar who guided me through the process.

Not sure if I have to make a map before I proced.

What I have done so far is this (sure I am mssing something)-

1. get satilite image by "sow background"
2. add map using background, calibrate, resize, etc.
3. I go to tools folder and find my LXxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.bmp and take this to my PSP (Corel). There I blend mask with black, white, greys, etc.
4. Save as- Same name but add _B.tif. i.e. cave as a tif file.
5. I can now choose maps and compile. I get a photo bgl. or

6. take the bmp file, the tiff file and inf file and drag over to a folder where I have a copy of resample. Once there I drag the inf file over resample and bingo I have my photo file which I now can rename if I wish. This has worked so far. Missing steps? Too many/ Not enough? hahaha! I'm getting there! Bob

Hi Bob, when you change the filename, are you also editing the .inf to reflect that change? Otherwise you'll just be recompiling the same Lxxxxxxxxxxxxx.bmp that you always were. Also if you're saving as .tif I think you have to specify that in the .inf as well.

I have looked at the inf file and it seems it is seeing the bmp and the tiff.

I tried two ways and both seem to have the same results. 1. through XbuilderX 2. my self made folder with a copy of resample in itl This second way I found I had to make sure I had the inf AND a copy of the bmp and the tiff file all together in that folder of mine. Then I'd drag and drop the inf file on to the resample icon and I'd get my photo bgl.

either way it works, but then I might be going around by Jone's barn. Hahaha! Bob

Oh OK, so the .tif is just for the blendmask then, and you added it in Sbuilder so that it's generating an .inf that includes it? Sounds good, it must be working. I think SbuilderX uses resample to compile the photoscenery so yeah, there shouldn't be any difference in the generated .bgl whether you compile from within SBX or drop the .inf manually in this case.

Is it snowing in Ione today? It is here (again), I think I'm going to crack if we don't get some spring-like weather pretty soon! Aaaarrrrgggghhh! :)

A ha! You're in Ideeho! Great! Friend of mine is in Post Falls- great guitarist and luthier. He helped me find a cheap Squire bass. We took the frets off and fixed up as a fretless. Added 1962 Fender pickups. sound fine now. That along with my P bass - good addition to our band here. Yes snowing in Ione. Should be the next few days.

Love it here- rush hour traffic is about 5 seconds long. <G> Bob

Yep, Bonners Ferry, remember we talked earlier through e-mail a bit?

What's a rush hour BTW? :D

Ah yes I remember now.

Rush hour? I think that's where there's so many cars in a row you can't figure out if you're comin' or goin'........ and it happens so fast (?) :rotfl:

(If you're going so slow opr at a stand still... why do they call it rush hour? )
