• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Ok, here goes, I want to change the color of the water surface to a light pink color (Don't Ask) . Is there a way to do this? Are there actual textures that control the way the water appears, if so where are they and what filename should I look for?

They are in the main texture folder as I remember, but I don’t know their names. Keep in mind this will change the ocean to pink everywhere around the world.

That's fine. I only need it for temporary use, I will keep the original files to change them back when I am ready. If you could find the actual file names I would appreciate it. I will look and see what I find in that directory.

I found some textures in the main texture folder that appeared to be water textures, I gave them a pinkinsh tent, but when displayed in FSX, the water is still blue. This is really no big deal, but I had a scenario where I needed the water to change to pink or even red for a while, but couldn't get it to work. I recently skipped over that scenario until I can figure it out. If anyone has any idea how I can do it, let me know, I would love to go and play out that scenario if possible.

there used to be a ton of different water textures for fsx based on waterclass type, 18 years later i'm not sure i remember what they were...

Indeed, one must take great care when wanting to change terrain or other textures that are used in multiple areas of FS.

IMHO, it is best to learn how to make custom photoreal land class that maps only onto local Geographic coordinates of FS terrain.

Otherwise one ventures into the perilous domain of making custom CVX vector land class textures and adding new entries to the FS Terrain.Cfg file, which should only be done by those with a serious attention to accuracy and a commitment to triple checking ones work without fail.
