• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Here's Why I was Asking....

Hi,

Splendid and thanks for giving me some credit (I haven't the faintest why) but, how the heck did you do this?
I noticed that you used some invisible runway to take off on, but the landing part baffles me.

Roby

PS (so that you know it is me): maybe there are some more Roby's?

Roby,

Recently, I was wondering why I couldn't make an airport suspended in air to help solve a problem getting AI helicopters to land on oil rigs. You helped with your post back when about making a hard surface airport for an aircraft carrier. I realized that the carrier was like "air" to FSX, just a picture or image and I could probably do what you suggested without the carrier. Once that was realized, I figured out the rest.

I put the rig in at 0 feet, the airport at the helipad height, and the separate airport with an apron at 0 feet (to hold down the terrain). I positioned the little midair airport with a parking spot on the helipad. Once I had a proper midair airport, I could get AI to land on it easy enough.

I have the test airport as a "template" now. Change the Lat/Lon to any I need, and match the dummy airport to the same lat/lon. Instant offshore airport.

Well, although this works from a distance, flying next to the platform you can see the apron and runway. Can anyone point me to a program for creating a hard surface? I need a clear hard surface 850' by 300' oriented north/south and at 116 feet that I can feed a lat/lon to.

A clear apron would be a great addition to ADE I guess. Anyway, the concept works, now I need to go back to the drawing board...

Any help is appreciated.

Dawg- Yes- FSDS can make hard surfaces just fine. I made a couple for you some time ago. Are you still here?
Bob

Thanks to Roby for his Aircraft Carrier post and those who tried to help me with "midair" runways. Here's a test of the concept to land AI Helicopters on an Oil Rig.

Have more work to do but it works...

Why post a link to a video that you made if we cannot see it?

Bigdawg sent me requests to make some helo padswith hard surfaces. He sen tsome design drawings. I did them and sen them back. This wa at least a year ago. Haven't heard from him since. No answer, no fu, no bye, nothing. I fear he may be gone from us? bob

He last logged on here a year ago.

I did not notice the post date but

this post was on the front page and in bold print as to say someone had just posted it or bumped it up.

I surely did not go backwards through many post and pages looking for it.

OK

I see jyarddog brought it to the front and I missed the original posting date back in 2013.

jvile- et al- I was working with him back then or before then. Just recently I was once more trying to see if he had been active again. I guess not. Maybe he died. Sad if so. Bob
