• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hold short markings in 2020

I posted a video on my YT channel with an issue I came across (most of you probably knew about it), showing the behavior of Editor while adding Hold Short Markings.....I'm just curious on everyone else's "work around". I was thinking primarily of using custom marking materials to solve the problem. It is really best shown in the video as text may not bring the issue clarity. Let me know what you all think.

And if any of you are looking for a place to advertise (for FREE) your stuff, I set up a Facebook Group "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 SDK and Scenery"....I don't care if you are creating for free or pay.....it's a place for you!

I am by no means an expert but I watched your video and here is my theory/opinion. This is a carryover from the FSX code and they used it to draw the hold short runway labels. In FSX you couldn’t contact the tower in the ATC menu until you were inside that same radius of the runway. For this reason in FSX scenery design you could put your hold short markings where they are positioned in the real world. (FSX didn’t draw the labels only the line). But the side affect to this was your plane had to taxi beyond the hold short like that you placed if it was outside of that radius or you couldn’t contact the tower in the ATC menu. So, to me it seems they’ve used this same radius from the runway to auto generate those labels. It’s not going to get fixed unless Asobo changes the code.

So, yes your solution to my knowledge is the only way and the problem then becomes if you use your own texture it’s going to look different than the default ones and so then depending on your OCD or quality of airport you’re trying to design then you’re probably going to dive down the rabbit hole of creating those for your whole airport so they look the same. From what I’ve seen with some of the bigger 3rd parties their textures include those labels so that’s probably what they’re doing.

Again I am no expert and this is just my theory based on previous experience. I’m still learning this new FS2020 myself. But, I did ask way back in the Alpha version in a big thread on ATC issues that I hoped would be fixed in later versions and this was one of them.

I don't know if it is the only way, but I expect it probably is. Frankly, out of force of habit (gained from FSX/P3D development) I almost never let the sim elements handle markings by themselves. Even if 99% correct, there is a minor flaw someplace. So I make all the taxiways from aprons and draw most lines and markings by hand.
