• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Hourly chime at a cathedral

Hello,

my name is Holger. This is my first post in the FSDeveloper forum. English is not my native language and school is out for roundabout 25 years, so please excuse my terrible english.

At first i want to thank Arno for his wonderful tools like MCX, LibraryCreator etc. Many thanks to all the members of this community who help each other.

I hope someone can help me with my problem. I want to attach a hourly chime at a cathedral. So i prepared 12 wavefiles (1 o´clock - 12 o´clock)

I wrote 12 fx-files and attached each twice with different conditions at a dummy-object. I do this with the help of MCX. Here is an example of an effectfile for the 1 o´clock wavefile:

[Library Effect]
Lifetime=5
Version=2.00
Radius=3000
Priority=1
[Sound]
FileName=EDDN_01_oClock.wav
MinAttenuationDistance=4000
Looping=FALSE

[Properties]
Cockpit=1
VirtualCockpit=1
Spot=1
Tower=1
Map=1

[Emitter.0]
Lifetime=0.00, 0.00
Delay=0.50, 0.50
Bounce=0.00
Rate=5.00, 10.00
X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00
Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00
Z Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00
Drag=0.00, 0.00
X Particle Velocity=-0.20, 0.20
Y Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00
Z Particle Velocity=1.00, 2.00
X Rotation=0.00, 0.00
Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00
Z Rotation=0.00, 0.00
X Offset=0.00, 0.00
Y Offset=0.00, 0.00
Z Offset=0.00, 0.00
Pitch=0.00, 0.00
Bank=0.00, 0.00
Heading=0.00, 0.00

I attach these effect twice at the dummy. On the first attach i added the following effect parameters:
First: HOD min = 1 max = 1
second: MOH min = 0 max = 1

On the second effect:

First: HOD min = 13 max = 13
second: MOH min = 0 max = 1

After i have attached 24 effects to the dummy i put him with the help of SbuilderX inside the cathedral in the scenery.

I parked my Bell206 alongeside the cathedral and i listen.

Time for the full hour i heared the correct wave. So far so good, but i have two Problems. The bell ringing is very quietly. I pushed the slider of the enviroment sound inside the FSX to max. But the effect was minor.

So i used an audio editor to push up the loudness of the wavefiles. But it takes no effect.

The second problem is that i can hear the sound only when i positioned near by or directly over the cathedral.

So i think i had to write one or more controller-files to trigger the effects.

Can anyone help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance

Holger

Hi Holger, Have you tried changing the MinAttenuationDistance value? I don't know what units the "4000" represents but it may have something to do with how the sound volume decreases over distance from the source of the effect. Just a guess.

BTW, your English is very good. :)

Hi Will,

i think your suggestion seems to be a good approach. I have attached 24 effects at the dummyobject, so that i can varify eachone a lit bit. So i hope finding out how various parameters in the slot "MinAttenuationDistance" influence the effect.

Unfortunately i found no german translation of the Microsoft SDK´s in the web. So i have start to make my own with the help of google translator. Until today with a with moderate success.

Many Thanks

Holger
