• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 How can I correct a mesh bug?

At NVVW (White Grass, Vanuatu) is a mountain much to high.

Is there a way to correct this error?

Hello:

Just as a conceptual overview, you could 'Append' FS2004 default local terrain LWM BGL(s) in SBuilder for FS9, then:

* Edit terrain vertex Altitudes for LWM BGLs that define 'land' (with elevations other than "0" or "-9999")

...or:

* Remove the original with LWM3 'sloped' flatten(s), and replace original terrain shape with LWM3 'sloped' flatten(s) at desired terrain Altitudes

...then compile to BGL(s) that replace original BGL(s)

Alternatively, one may:

* Remove the original with LWM3 'sloped' flatten(s), and replace the original terrain shape with a textured 3D model

If you are interested in more specific details of this workflow, feel free to inquire further. :)

Thanks Gary,

I checked the problem on my second computer a small notebook with a "virgin" fs9 and the problem is there too.
So I assume there is no problem with an addon mesh. I will try the Sbuilder9 way and edit terrain vertex altitudes...

If you have a fs9 installation, you can check the error at NVVW.

Hi Guenther:

I finally got some time free to directly check that area in Google Earth, and in FS9 by
:

* Slewing a FS9 Finney CH+ "Crosshairs Plus" aircraft on the 'ground surface' to the apex of the terrain "spike" at NVVW, and noting the:

Coordinates: -19.4567874N,169.2636114E

...and

Altitude: 9799.9 Ft. / 2987.01 Meters

I then opened [FS9 install path]\Scenery\World\Scenery\DE120N00.BGL in TMFViewer, "jumped" to the above coordinates, and noted:

Altitude: 9711.257 Ft. / 2960.00 Meters

FYI: This indicates the problem is a "spike" in the source data for the FS9 SDK Resample default terrain mesh within DE120N00.BGL

The area of that "spike" will likely best be remedied by use of a custom LWM3 'sloped' flatten BGL made in SBuilder for FS9.

Editing / replacing of the LWM BGL vertices for other scenery nearby to NVVW would not be required to resolve this specific anomaly.

Hope this helps a bit more ! :)

Thanks Gary,
with LWMviewer 1.4 I found the "guilty" bgl de120n00.bgl too.
No way to dissasemble this bgl (scdis, bglanalyzer and so on...)
Hexedit is not helpful, if the structure of this mesh file is unknown...

The mountain (Tukosmera) should have 1,084 m (3,556 ft).

I searched a lot about "mesh" in Sbuilder's help, but could not find a solution for my problem.

So I agree with you, the sloped flattens should be the solution.

Could take some time to fit them into the landscape...
