• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ive heard that modifying the ai, needs a lot of PBR texturing, is this so?

Hi,

You don’t have to use PBR materials on the new model format ( glTF ) if you don’t wish to. However, as we ourselves found at MAIW in not doing so, the converted models looked visually well below the standard of what we were seeing on the other Aircraft in MSFS.

When we switched to using PBR materials, it didn’t take too long to get stunning results. MAIW lead model developer John Young, was even blown away by the transformation.

I’ll try to find a couple of pictures for comparison if I can.

Regards,

Pete Beeby.

.........ok, so dug this one out of the archives.

This is the JYAI Tornado GR1 model designed for FS9, FSX / P3d and converted for use in MSFS2020, but without using any PBR materials only the original " dds" Texture Sheet/s

The next shots are much more recent conversions featuring the JYAI F-15C and E versions. These include the use of full PBR materials and I am sure you will notice a major difference in the Visuals. Remember these models were originally designed for FS9, FSX and P3D just the same as the Tornado.

The models are shown here as ' flyable ' for demonstration purposes only. They are intended for use only as AI Aircraft.
It is hoped that these particular models will grace the sky's under the ' MAIW ' banner, in the upcoming release of MSFS 2024.

Kind Regards,

Pete Beeby.

MAIW Conversion Team.
