• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How do I 'slew' around when adding a scenery object

I have created a scenery object in Blender using Renderdoc to get a 3D image from Google maps, created and placed the .xml .bin .gltf files and texture folder in my 'project' and was successful in building my .bgl in DEV mode (after watching a Youtube video) but when I come to ADDing it I cannot 'slew' from an overhead view to see if I am placing the object correctly relative to the ground (so that it 'sits' correctly neither floating in mid air or partially buried). I can see my scenery object and have it correctly 'scaled' and positioned but need to be able to ensure it's height is correct.

When building a scenery object in SDK and then want to add it to the correct location I assume that I need to started a flight (with dev mode) where the object is required. Is that correct? THe video tutorial doesn't explain that. How do I 'slew' around to where I want to add the object? And how do I 'slew' to an 'angle' where I can see how far my object is above ground level? I have tried all joystick inputs and also the keypad keys without success.

I'd recommend watching all "Flying Theston" YouTube videos, but your question du jour may be answered at 6:00 elapsed time. ;)

Thanks Gary I missed that one. The author is the same author of the video I followed (Episode 5 - Placing the scenery in the flight simulator which is the last part for creating photogrammetry scenery for MSFS) however in that one he didn't advise exactly how to 'slew' around although he is generally VERY good in covering everything. I now see that I need to use ALT + LMB to 'slew' up and down etc.
Thanks also Stinger.
Another thing which concerns me is the number of errors reported (in red) during a build and most if not all (I got tired of checking them all) (seem to) have nothing connected to my scenery object. Errors about aircraft (could have been ai aircraft can't remember).

I guess maybe that if the object builds then I don't need to be bothered with any reported errors?

I would not commit to that generalized assertion.

Whereas 'some' status-type messages regarding population of values in Marketplace and Business fields might prove inconsequential, I would otherwise copy /save / review all CMD mode console text after all SDK 'builds' ...until we have a more stable pattern of expected functionality and results with MSFS 2020 SDK.

Thanks Gary Is there any tutorial/documentation on how to 'evaluate' errors to know which ones could be a concern and which ones not or is it just a 'gut feel' which may come with practice and use?

Unfortunately, AFAIK, in the foreseeable future, there is not likely to be an alternative to staying informed by monitoring threads at FSDev and other major MSFS online forums that may discuss SDK issues.

Gary this if off topic however I posted this question elsewhere and never got notification of a reply and have also 'googled' 'msfs issues' etc and never found anything about it and so I wonder if it is an 'issue' or something only related to me and something I need to now do.
When I start a new flight, past departure and arrival airports I have used previously do not show in the list of 'history' whereas they used to before the latest update (5?). Do you know anything about this?

Thanks Gary
I was of the opinion that there was a website where all known outstanding problems reported existed and thought that if it was a known problem it would be there.
