• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How do you keep objects when updating AFCAD for P3D?

In the process of updating the taxi links for an FSX AFCAD to use in P3D, when I save the new file, ADE removes all the objects like buildings in the new version. How do I keep all the objects in the new save?
I went through the manual, but couldn't find that particular answer.

Thanks, any suggestions will be appreciated!

Welcome to FS Developer. This sounds like you are loading and saving from the Bgl file and not the project file. Can you provide some more information about what you are actually doing?

I open the FSX file from the BGL, update the taxi links, only, resave the file to the project folder. ADE gives it a new name. I then move out the old AFCAD from the pertinent folder and move the new AFCAD in. The taxi links are corrected, but the builldings are gone. I guess I am making a mistake somewhere and I haven't quite figured out what that is yet.

No and I am not sure why either. When you load the bgl file can you see buildings? I assume so. We need to be sure that you are not compiling the buildings to a separate Bgl file that is not being put alongside the airport. ADE can split the compile between airport and scenery objects. Please check that Settings > Options > Projects Folder > Separate Airport and Object Bgl Files is not checked. If it is then you are probably creating a separate bgl file for objects.

Also you say you are moving the airport from FSX to P3D. Are the buildings stock buildings? If not then have you moved the object libraries and textures from FSX to P3D?

I have checked the project file settings and the separate airport and object files is not checked. Most AFCAD creators use default objects, and I assume both FSX and P3D use pretty much the same stock default objects so no, I have not moved any folders as both platforms have those same objects. If you open the newly saved ADE file in your program, it shows the same outlines of the objects as in the previous BGL. However, when you go in to P3D, the objects are not there.

OK - can you upload the project (.ad4) file here please so that we can take a look at it. The other thing to check is the image (scenery complexity) of objects and the setting that is in P3D. This is another reason objects don't appear. Anyway if you post the project file then I can check it here and see if I can display the objects in P3D (v2.5 I assume) Also in ADE I assume you are opening ADE for P3D v2 and compiling it with the P3D v2 Compiler?

Thanks for your help! Here is the original FSX AFCAD and file and the ADE converted file. Hopefully you will see something in particular that I am not seeing.

Which objects are missing?

I have MissingLibraryAlert=1 set in the P3D.CFG and it doesn't complain:

This is your compiled file:

Wow, in my P3D only the runways and taxiways show up, no buildings. They are there in the original FSX AFCAD, but no taxiways so,

I change the flags with ADE and it fixes the taxiways but the buildings are gone. Maybe I'm not saving it right?

Ah, that's the answer. Okay, that is my problem, I have neither SDK installed in my FSX or my P3D setups, so I am unable to compile the AFCAD.

What scenery complexity setting do you have in P3D?

It worked! I downloaded the P3D SDK and installed it, all really simple and then thanks to magic of the "find" button in the ADE settings-folder menu, ADE located everything, I compiled the new BGL and all the buildings are there...pure genius you guys...thanks!

My plan is to convert a number of AFCADs to work in P3D while waiting for true P3D sceneries to come along.
