• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

FSXA How is set visibility distance of AI airplanes?

Hello there!

I have just bought the splendid « Trafic France » AI package, but I have noticed that the AI airplanes from the addon appear or disappear at a much closer distance than default AI planes (default ones remains visible from much further than the addon ones). This creates a pop-up effect which kind of brings the realism a notch down.

So I am wondering what is the parameter that sets the visibility distance of AI models? Is it written down in the aircraft.cfg or in the MDL file?

Any input will be much appreciated!
 
In fact, nobody that I spoke to or got in touch with, knows.
I have the same problem on my computer with AI ground vehicles that pop up once they are very close to the user aircraft but then funnily enough, others do not have that problem with those same AI.
I have thought of changing video card settings, adding and changing LODs and many other things but with no result.
Your thread is very intriguing as I never found out why certain aircraft have those specific LODs (e.g. 280, 120, 60, etc.) and why not just 100 downward.
 
So I am not the first one struggling with the issue. This « Living world » is not the busiest one on FSDev, so I am going to post it in Aircraft modelling too in an attempt to get more exposure to the ol’ wizards.

In France VFR package, aircrafts are not LODed to ensure maximum visibility. I have a friend who gets LOD issues (LODed objects vanish too soon), but we can't figure out, as cfg and so on are "the same". There must be some hidden property of setting...?
 
Same thing for me, some MDLs deseapear then reappear in close distance.

In my experience, MDL files created with early versions of FSDS2 disappear at relatively short distances. MDL files created by later versions of FSDS and those created by GMAX do not typically do this.
