• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

FS2004 How to adjust oil temp

I am designing for FS 2004, My oil temp gauge is way out of range, normals should be 60-80 C. My gauge is topping out at 227 C according to the tool tip. The gauge scale runs up to 120 C, so it tops out at least 10 mins. before the tool tip reading does. My aircraft is a single engine F4u-1 Corsair using (A:Eng1 oil temperature,celsius) to drive the needle elements(3d and 2d).

I am a newbie at flight dynamics, not even sure if this is where to post this but here goes. I assume this problem is the settings in the .air file. Here is a screen shot of the oil temp settings in my .air file:

Can someone tell me where to start? Or if this is the wrong area, please point me in the correct direction.

degrees R means degrees Rankine. Rankine is equal to Fahrenheit + 459.67.

900 Rankine, as shown in your photo, is equal to about 220 C.



First, delete those duplicate records. You should not have more than one record with the same number.

Change the value of 900 R to 710 R. That will give you a peak of around 120C.

Then tweak the tuning and cooling to get normal engine operating temperatures. Rate of change will dictate how long it takes for the temperature to change from a cold engine to operating temp, and vice versa.

My partner Ronnie Pendergraff started the aircraft, then dropped it in my lap when his wife died. I was the scenery designer at that time, and had little aircraft design experience. So pardon my newbie questions, but do the duplicate oil temp, oil pressure and engine EGT entries mean he started with a twin engine .air file and never finished the edit?

No. They are not needed and WILL cause a conflict. ...unless the entries are identical of course. Make a backup copy of the airfile, then delete the second entry. If anything stops working, restore the back up and delete the other entry instead.

I made the back up copy as a matter of standard procedure. Deleted the duplicate entries and edited the oil temp values per your suggestions. The gauge now stays close to the needed temp range, though it does move out of range depending on altitude. I guess that is to be expected though.

The gauge functions close enough to norms for me to get the 3d needle adjusted to the 2d needle and the tool tip reading. I will try to tweak it further when I do the final work on the .air file.
