• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to import library objects

I have downloaded the alpha version of ADE for MSFS2020 and successfully imported a project I created a couple of years ago however the library objects are missing (display as empty boxes).
Is this simply because the alpha version doesn't allow for these as yet or is there a method I can use?
The library objects are 3rd party objects I had manually added.
Thanks

I have moved this to the forum for ADE 2020

ADE does allow for objects but it does not support the older mdl type of models. This is because they are depreciated in MSFS. We are now using glTF models.

You could convert the older object models using MCX to the new format and then add them to the ADE 2020 Library Object Manager. Alternatively there are a number of stock models available to be added to a project and, if you are just experimenting, then you could replace the old objects with newer ones. Finally you can create your own models as glTF models and use them. I would suggest replacing or converting

Thanks Jon. Sorry about the choice of forum as I didn't look far enough. I will try your suggestions.

Hello Jon
My ADE (fsx) project has heaps of library objects which are not recognisable in ADE 2020 (by name). Also the inbuilt library doesn't contain suitable objects. Using an earlier version of ADE to view the library objects I find them in at least 3 .bgl files but haven't as yet identified as to what type of file they are and only assume they are MDL. Is it possible using an earlier version of ADE and converted MDL (to gITF files) to swap the library objects save and then import the project using ADE 2020?

Or will converting the MDL to gITF files and adding them to libraries with the same name (my memory is fading as it is a couple of years since I worked on ADE projects and assume that libraries are BGL files) result in ADE 2020 automatically picking them up?

Just trying to work out what would be the easiest for me as there are at laest 14 different library objects in the project and most used multiple times (eg docks, jetties, marinas some objects from ADE some imported - for a water airport)

To be honest if you are not familiar with ADE 2020 then you night want to start with a test project. The differences between MSFS an FSX are significant.

FSX bgl libraries are almost certainly mdl files. Mdl models have been used in all version of the sim up to but not including MSFS

You would have to use MCX to convert models. ADE has no conversion abilities for models

could someone be so great to provide a link to this MCX tool, I have some old MDL files to convert as well.

Thanks Jon. I have downloaded the MCX tool but not the latest 'latest development' version and not yet tried it yet as it was getting late when I downloaded it.

I will take your advice to first try a new 'test' project and maybe just add water airport, water runways and parking spots with no docks, jetties eg very simple. I don't think I need water taxipaths? just for (user controlled) flights. I think it might be easier just to recreate the project rather than try and modify the old one.

added later-

Firstly I have read parts of the document ADE 2020 ALPHA 18 NOTES V1.pdf especially about building the project.

I started a new project (wow I had forgotten a lot but picked it up very quickly) and simply created a (WATER) airport, runway and start points for the runway (no taxi paths). And then thought I should attempt to 'compile' it by selecting 'file>build project" (not sure if that is what I should be doing but couldn't see anything else to try).
After the process it displayed

I have found some compiler errors during 'build project' and fixed as many as I could however the next to be fixed is
invalid package name cax3-sechelt water airport it should be in form aaa-bbb-...-xxx I guess it doesn't like the spaces . I found in project properties the name I had entered for 'package name was cax3-sechelt water airport so I changed it to cax3-sechelt-water-airport but still the build error continues.

By the way when is 'export xml' required? I have done it already but would like to know the significance.
