• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to keep a rwy from flattening where it is placed?

I can't for the life of me......

When I place a runway, it flattens the area it's placed. Is there no way to have the runway follow the undulations in the land?

Thx!

Not directly, doesn't look like there's a control on that.

You will need to re-deform the runway (RunwayDeformation) along its path...

Really? Then what is the "terraforming" option for in the runway options? I mean, the default airports are placed "on the land" and follow the undulations, I can't believe we can't do the same?

I'll have to look up the RunwayDeformation, but I didn't see that anywhere. Any advice?

Hello:

After the current MSFS-2020 SDK is downloaded and installed, you may wish to search the MSFS SDK Documentation :

[MSFS SDK install path]\Documentation\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 SDK.chm

Keywords:

* Terraforming

* Rectangle

A YouTube video by FSDeveloper forum member 'Benney' (aka "BenneyBoy444") shows how MSFS-2020 'Terraforming' works:

Note that BenneyBoy444 has a number of comprehensive video tutorials on working with MSFS-2020 SDK (...many thanks, Benney ! ;) )

TIP: Play this and other SDK YouTube videos at maximum resolution, using slower speeds under the 'settings' icon on the video window toolbar.

Thanks, I'll look at all that. First I need to download the updated SDK I suppose. Didn't realize that didn't update itself.

Seems the answer is learning the profile editor in the runway's terraforming properties.

Still, I don't understand why not just place the runway on the surface? We have all sorts of options to make things flat, but if you are creating a small, dirt field, you want to follow the contours of the land.

Also: watched some of Benny's videos, very good job there covering a lot of topics I'd been wondering about....like covering up satellite photos left behind.

I've designed a few farm strips and a lot of the fields are rarely flat. Because all the fields are grass I cheat and hide the actual runway normaly somewhere in a clump of trees then simply move the start points to the ends of the grass strip on the underlying scenery. I make the runway transparent. So you land on the actual terrain not the runway. the entry in the airport menu looks bit strange but who actually looks at that?

Interesting! I wonder tho, how this would effect AI planes?
