• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to make FSX road traffic

Hi,

I'm just downloading Sbuilder X and was wondering if anyone could provide some general instructions about how to make moving FSX road traffic, keep in mind i've never used the program before.

Thanks

Aaron

I would start off by recommending going to Avsim and searching for the SBuilderX tutorials by Luis Feliz-Tirado. These serve as an excellent way to get going with SBX.

After that, there are additional files that SBX uses to communicate with the satellite imagery services, including an updated DLL file for working with Google.

Making roads in SBX is as simple as making a line with the Line tool and tagging it with the Freeway Traffic tag. But there are a couple of things to realize. First, roads do not create traffic and traffic does not create roads, they are seperate functions. Second, while the SDKs outline the freeway traffic as to (T), from (F) or both (B), the (B) tag is not implemented within FSX. So one a major roadway you will need two lines, real close to each other, one tagged T, the other F.

hey,

Thanks for your reply, so to make some moving traffic, i dont actaully need an fs road? At the moment I have a photoreal road and would like to put traffic on it. So all I need to do is draw the lines and name them freeway (B and T, two lines) then make the bgl and it will work? I would be using the imagery dll file so I can get the coordinates right.

Okay, I know I'm doing something wrong. I am trying to make roads over photo scenery with traffic.

I created a line and tagged it as 4 lane concrete divided road. Then I created another line and made it two lane traffic forward. Selected all lines and compiled.

In the scenery I can see the road, but no traffic. Set FSX traffic density to 100%, no change. Went to a default scenery and had road traffic.

Here is what TMF Viewer shows.I know the image is not clear, but you can see that it shows a road and traffic.

I am using SBuilder 3.10. One concern may be that SBX does not see the FSX path. I have seen posts on how to fix that, but it has not been needed during the photo texturing, water masking and coast line fixes.

Any ideas ?

You cannot make roads over photoreal. Traffic: yes. Roads: no.

You can paint the roads right onto your photoreal source, then resample.

Dick

Wow ! What a quick response, thank you.

I will try to make just a traffic file and see what happens.

I made a line for traffic, compiled and saved to same scenery folder as photo bgl's.

Here is the TMF Viewer for the traffic line and the road that should have traffic.

This is so easy, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong...

How about you zip the BGL file, and attach it to a post? Then we can test it on our own scenery.

The photreal shouldn't make a difference, as the traffic should show over it.

Dick

Okay, thanks for your suggestions, guys.

I tried putting the BGL in it's own scenery folder and added it above the photo scenery, same results, but well worth a try.

Here is the traffic BGL in a zip...

Hi frankwi2.

I'm guessing here, but I think there is no population density here ( value 0 ), and that would suppress all traffic of cars and leisure boats.

I think resample can make a small population density BGL for the area, but I'll need a bit of time to look into it.

Dick

Hi frankwi2.

It is a population density problem...

Attached is a zip file for a small pop density BGL for the area, with the source files.

Rename the BGL as you like. I used a value of 50 ( 50% ). You could use more or less as desired. I changed the original BMP to a greyscale, boldly brushed the values as 0 or 50, saved as RAW from PaintshopPro.

Thanks Dick. Do I put just the BGL in my Guam/scenery folder ? Or do I put ALL the files in there ? Or do they go in the World/scenery folder ?

Hi frankwi2.

I would just put them all in the same addon scenery folder.

Dick

Dick, you are my HERO ! Just the BGL did not work, but all the files in the addon folder did work. I never would have figured that out on my own. Thank you VERY much !

Hi, how can I edit population density? I have a similar problem, trying to add car traffic to a desolated area.

Thanks,
David
