• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to replace default RWY lights with 3D Lights?

Anyone able to give me a basic step by step on how to remove/delete/replace 2D RWY lighting with 3D lights using FSX Planner?

Thanks,

Steve

Do you mean approach lights or center and edge lights?

Removal of either involves changing the runway settings. FSX Planner is no longer supported by the developer and I am not sure who else uses it now. However in the runway properties there should be options for edge lights and also for approach lights. You would need to make sure these are not checked or not set.

To make your own would mean either using some sort of library object and effects.

Thx for the speedy reply Jon.

1. I mean the whole shebang - RWY APP lights, Centreline, Edge, PAPI, VASI, etc.

I plan on using another library with 3D lighting, and replace them into the scenery. I do have ADE (latest version also). Also have Instant Scenery V2. I'm a newbie and want to try replacing lighting with 3D lighting in some of my favourite airports firstly, as I fly 3D in FSX solely. (You know, the FSX 3D lighing problem. Some of my payware airports were constructed with 3D lighting, and several were not). That way I get to enjoy and visually see the lighting clearly within 3D.

Just not sure how to go about it. Need a starter in the right direction.

Thx,

Steve

You are probably looking at something like ADE to remove the stock lighting and perhaps GMax or another 3D tool to create the lights. There is a tool that can enhance taxi lighting (someone will remember the name!) but I don't think that includes runway lighting

Hi Jon,

thx so much again on the speedy response.

Are there any tutorials that you are aware of that can explain the removal of the stock lights using ADE? That will be my 1st step.
Secondly, I believe that Instant Scenery V2 should then be able to allow me to place the 3D lights into the scenery. That part I haven't seen any explanation for in the IS V2 pdf. Will refer it to Flight1 for an answer.
(Hope that 30$USD I spent wasn't wasted for this effort!)

Rgds,

Steve
