How to replicate wire rails

Hello there,

Is there a very easy and practical way to make this structure and in the same time save some polygons? I want to make a metal support rail something like in the picture.

Thanks!!

What ever you do don't make the poles individual polygons make a flat polygon and use textures to show the rails using alpha channels.

its not that big really, just a small part of support on the roof. Because if i were to use alpha i'm scared that it'll turn out jaggy and stuff.

But i think its small enough to go unnoticed.. its rougly i think 10 metres long maybe?

Up to you how you want to go with it but doing it the alpha way will make your scenery more fps friendly and plus if it turns out jaggy people are not going to get close up to it are they? it would look ok from far.

If you're worried about jagged textures the only option is to use as big a texture as you can afford to do, to get the detail. You can also make the alpha channel fade out slightly at the edges to remove the sharp transitions from black to white. There's a fine line where it looks okay (before the object just starts looking fuzzy-edged). A larger texture helps in this regard too, because the fade-over is proportionally small.

Also remember that if you use alpha transparency you'll need to texture the inside of the object too, because obviously you'll be able to see through the sides.

One large texture or multiple small objects ... your decision!
