• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi guys,

So i'm working on a totally different project at the moment and have hit the brick wall of all brick walls!

I've developed this road in GMAX, I now want to apply a single texture to the entire of it - i've seen it done before but not been able to replicate, this tutorial shows what I want to achieve, but the method doesn't work (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1k-xBCWiWE&feature=relmfu)

Any ideas please? Pretty desperate to be fair.

Much appreciated folks.

The only way I know of that you could use that texture along a road is the spline/loft method, but that wouldn't work with that, sorry man, I don't know.

You really would need to apply the mapping at the lofting stage.

Otherwise it is an almost impossible task, AFAIK.

Thanks guys.

Sadly, this wasn't made using the loft method. It's various spleans boolean'ed togeather and connected with the "Create Line" tool to make the polys.

Just had a good idea though which doesn't mean starting all over!

I could simply draw around my existing shapes with splines, and like the taxiline tutorial simply loft them, never thought of that before!

You can paint your texture with the shape of the object, and edit unwrap, but problably the texture resolution never is fine, and must be accurate edition to no get distorted, a little difficult, because of the object.

I think you might need to start this all over. It doesn't take too much time, may be less than what you have done before.
Loft technique is quite easy to map the texture along the path. Open the plus sign on the panel Surface Parameter and look inside. There are Apply texture along the axis and repeat on the width. You need to put some numbers to make it repeat along the line but no repeat on the width. By the way, you need to rotate your texture 90 degree since the texture will match the line of loft.

Please take a look at my attached picture. It took me only ten min. to do this.
You just draw circle and lines that represent the path of the road and do the loft. It will take less time correcting UVWmap. Start it all over takes less time, believe me.

I just noticed that you have curved along the strait road and circle connection. That's tricky. I don't know either.
