• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ICAO suggestions

Hello everyone:wave:

I have been working on assembling a list of airports to be added in utah, including heliports, and have rapidly discovered that a slew of the correct ICAO codes are taken or otherwise have problems!:yikes: I would like to know of anyone's suggestions on these problems.

Problem 1:

Airport codes appear to have changed from what is in FSX to more recent codes, what should i do? change them? leave them? something in between? If i need to change them, how? just change it in ADE and save? Examples:
U19 -> KFOM
39U -> 02UT
U43 -> U64

Problem 2:

This pertains to only one airport, but could be applied to many. At roosevelt, aka 74V, there is an old airport that had the same ID before the new one opened, and it uses the same code. How should i get around this? they both need to use 74V, but one is closed, and one is an open, active airport.

Problem 3:
A recently closed airport, UT11, Kastler Compressor, is included as default in FSX, but the code has recently been transfered to Intermountain Medical Center Heliport in Salt lake. Any suggestions? Rename Kastler to something else? if so, what?

Thiokol plant 78, code UT23, has also closed and had its code transferred to Pioneer Valley hospital heliport.

Problem 4:
It appears numerous airports in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan all have UT## codes that conflict with airports in the US. After some research it appears these airports dont have any ICAO codes, but some organization refers to them by these numbers. Any ideas? Examples:
UT31
UT44
UT45
UT46
UT50
UT51
UT52
UT55
UT56
UT58
UT63
UT64
UT71
UT72
UT73
UT76
UT77
UT78
UT81

Feel free to answer any of the questions, or whatever. Thanks for the help, i need it.

It is in no way easy with normal tools to change the ident of an airport that already exists in FS.

This means changing the stock file. Just changing it in ADE and compiling will at the least result in two airports at the same place with different idents..... Changing stock files is really not to be recommended.

I assume all the traffic files will need changing also. I know some folks have done it so perhaps one will chip in.

So would you suggest that i maybe create fake IDs? IE UX45 instead of UT45? if so, what should i come up with?

is there any way to create two airports with the same ID?

Yes but one over writes the other. So the later will over write the earlier. Or more accurately the one that loads last (higher scenery priority) will hide some or all of the earlier even if they are in different places.

Sounds perfect, I don't plan on flying to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, or Turkmenistan anytime soon.

EDIT: ADE won't allow creating duplicate airports....
